Role Definition

  • Directs the actuarial function for the organization by analyzing, estimating financial risk for Insurance products and services.

Responsibilities

  • Communicating the complexities of insurance finances to company executives, government officials, shareholders, policyholders, or the general public.
  • Participating in determining company policies for product development, pricing, reserving, reinsurance and financial management from an actuarial perspective.
  • Developing and implementing strategies, policies, and guidelines for the actuarial function; monitoring all actuarial operations.
  • Developing methods and procedures to continually improve the effectiveness and efficiency of actuarial functions for the organization; implementing quality control procedures.

Consideration for Top Candidates:

  • At least 7 years of experience in performing pricing or reserving actuarial functions
  • Active membership in the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS or FCAS)
  • Be able to provide a servant leadership mindset, prioritizing the growth and well-being of team members coupled with a minimum of 2 years management/leadership experience.

•    Utilizes financial mathematics to make complex financial risk decisions.

Statistics and Actuarial Modeling: Knowledge of statistical and actuarial modeling tools and techniques; ability to apply modeling processes and techniques to facilitate risk management decisions.
 Level Extensive Experience: 

•    Coaches others on complicated statistical mathematics concepts and calculations.
•    Assesses the quality, relevance and reliability of data used as input to a given model.
•    Consults on the selection of appropriate actuary models for complex and unusual risk management problems.
•    Applies varied modeling processes to diverse risk management problems.
•    Analyzes and draws final conclusions from results of the modeling process.
•    Calculates, explains and adjusts for potential errors in a given model.

Insurance / Warranty Industry: Knowledge of the insurance industry's functions; ability to apply knowledge of insurance trends, directions, major issues, and regulatory considerations to various business environments.

•    Discusses existing and planned distribution platforms for a specific product.
•    Monitors major trends associated with a specific insurance product or function.
•    Researches key industry players and competitors for a specific product or market.
•    Explains the best practices, key processes and benchmarks for a specific insurance product.
•    Describes possible solutions to major operational issues.
