About the Role

Work with Head of Healthcare, Group Healthcare, and other key partners across AIA Singapore to provide a clinical perspective and medical inputs for specific initiatives and projects under AIA’s Integrated Healthcare Strategy (‘IHS’).

AIA has embarked on a multi-year Healthcare Transformation programme to enhance its healthcare proposition, strengthen its health and wellness ecosystem and ensure the financial sustainability of its healthcare portfolio by implementing changes and new capabilities across multiple functional areas including product, agency, underwriting, provider partnerships, claims and analytics. We are now looking to use the great foundation that we have built and embark on the next phase of our Healthcare Strategy.

The Healthcare Principal will work in close collaboration with the various functional heads of department (e.g. Claims, Actuarial, Pricing, Provider Management, Agency Management, Health Analytics, Technology). This is a critical role for the Healthcare team and will require the candidate to have a good understanding of health insurance, deep expertise in the functional areas relevant to the workstream, and the ability to collaborate and work optimally with senior partners to get results.

Primary roles and responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the product design process by providing medical insights and evaluation of Health Services that will improve quality and customer experience.

  • Contribute, from a clinical standpoint to the design and delivery of AIA’s wellness proposition.

  • Work with Claims team to craft and implement clinical pathways / guidelines, establish a clinical Governance policy and support review of cases for medical appropriateness.

  • Support the building of strategic relationships with leading hospitals to define and deliver clinical quality measures and AIA service propositions at the hospitals, incl. alternative reimbursement models to drive more value, e.g. Value-based care initiatives.

  • Provide inputs/insights on management of chronic conditions, community-based services, and propositions/services for the ageing population.

  • Support the Provider Engagement and Quality team with our relationships and management of the AIA Quality Healthcare Partner Network, where required.

  • Render case specific clinical advice to facilitate claims adjudication, as needed.

  • Provide health talks on medical trends to agents.

  • Undertake assessment / review of clinical outcomes and critical metrics of healthcare partners.

  • Support identification of opportunities for AIA to engage/partner with healthcare-ecosystem players.

  • Work with the Enterprise Analytics team to provide clinical insights on claims experience and emerging trends in health claims.

  • Drive successful delivery of the assigned initiative to achieve healthcare savings, loss ratio improvements, and other objectives as defined in the workstream plan.

  • Develop strong working relationships across AIA Singapore, AIA Group and healthcare ecosystem partners.

The workstreams that will require focus include:

  • Product changes.

  • Healthcare ecosystem development.

  • Enabling a digital health-journey for our customers.

  • Pre-authorisation.

  • Claims optimisation.

  • Improve third party recovery.

  • Improvement of provider steerage and fee structure.

  • Agency engagement on healthcare metrics and initiatives.

  • Underwriting investigations of early claims and suspicious cases.

  • Analytics and financials.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Strong communications skills are a pre-requisite of the role. Candidate will communicate across AIA Singapore at top (EXCO/CEO) and senior management levels within local business and Group.

  • Candidate will coordinate with and work within multi- functional teams including local and group resources and external consultants. About 20-30% of the time may be spent dealing with external parties / vendors.

  • Medical degree or equivalent qualifications from a university

  • At least 10 years working experience and have a good understanding of local healthcare system.

  • Good understanding of the healthcare system in Singapore.

  • Exposure to health insurance functions.

  • Proven track record to prioritise multiple tasks or projects.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Strong and effective interpersonal relationship skills while working in a team

  • Analytical problem solving /decision making and judgment skills.
