Navigators Re (“NavRe”) is a division of The Hartford writing Property, Casualty and Specialty assumed treaty reinsurance with the following characteristics:

  • Founded in 2012;

  • 2024 estimated annual GWP of $850 million;

  • 70+ colleagues managing underwriting, distribution, actuarial, finance, contract, claims, information technology and operations;

  • A global footprint with offices in Stamford, CT, Morristown, NJ, Coral Gables, FL, London and Zurich;

  • Many of the markets in which Nav Re currently competes are exhibiting favorable trading conditions; 

Reporting to the Head of Operations, Actuarial, & Data for NavRe, the Director of Digital Transformation and Reporting will lead and implement a wide range of automation and reporting capabilities for NavRe business. The successful candidate will work with internal and external stakeholders including reinsurance brokers, IT, reinsurance accounting, finance, underwriting operations, and actuarial.

Responsibilities:

Lead and Implement Automation Capabilities within the Operations & Actuarial Function

  • Set out a roadmap for Digital Transformation within the Operations & Actuarial Functions.  This roadmap must include a comprehensive assessment of existing processes and technology versus a target future state, business benefits of transformation, critical delivery milestones, costs and accountabilities of stakeholders.

  • Design and Implement Processes to automate the capture of accounting statements and reinsurance treaty booking into our treaty administration system, working with key stakeholders including brokers, IT, accounting, underwriting operations and actuarial.

Manager of treaty administration application (Sapiens):

  • Serve as the liaison and main contact point with the I.T. team responsible for SRM.

  • Manage SRM Enhancements: coordinate with leadership to agree on needed upgrades, collaborate with IT and SRM to scope and price, then oversee and ensure timely, accurate implementation.  

  • Scoping and implementation of self-service reporting capabilities. This includes a setting out a plan within the first three months indicating timelines and resources for project goals, report specifications, user acceptance testing and go-live dates.

Implement Real-Time reporting capabilities including but not limited to:

  • Lead the design and implementation of a reporting suite which uses real-time data to report on various business metrics such as; submission activity, premium deviation, unapplied cash and aging reports, and other KPI’s.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably focused in Technology, Statistics, Accounting, STEM or other numerate-fluent area.

  • Strong technical, analytical and data skills; Excel required and experience with VBA, R, Python, Tableau, Power BI preferred.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in one of the following areas: Operational Workflow, Efficiency & Productivity; Accounting; Business Information Systems; Data Quality; Project Management; Reporting.

  • Experience with reinsurance accounting operations and treaty administration systems.

  • Respectful, curious, and inclusive mindset.

  • Ability to influence and inspire strong, collaborative performance from peers and staff.

  • Strong verbal and written communicator with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze a dataset and present data and conclusions clearly and well-labelled.

  • Self-motivated with the desire to get the job done to successful completion.

Location:

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in an office in Stamford, CT; New York, NY; Hartford, CT; or Chicago, IL three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$99,360 - $149,040
