Job Title:

Job Summary:

Responsible for overall design, implementation, communication, and administration of the organization's benefits programs. Ensures that benefit programs support the organization's strategic objectives and meet all legal requirements. Plans, manages and/or coordinates benefit activities and staff.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration or related field and three (3) years of benefits administration experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of employee benefit plans and related laws, regulations, and standards. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources. Detail oriented, a self-starter, and able to work independently. Skill in implementing complex programs. Verbal and written communication skills. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Analytical skills. Ability to work collaboratively with others to facilitate an effective employee benefits program. Ability to train, motivate, and supervise employees.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises and administers the operation of the employee benefits program to include health, life, accident, death, retirement, and any other plans offered through UMMC and the state.

  • Analyzes existing or proposed benefit plans to determine the competitiveness and marketability; recommends to HR leadership changes to current policies, procedures, and practices to provide optimum results and customer service.

  • Reviews and ensures benefit plans are in compliance with applicable federal and state laws and guidelines.  Monitors benefit providers to ensure competitive rates, satisfactory service levels, performance of administration, and fiduciary responsibilities.

  • Prepares and distributes written and verbal information to inform employees of benefits and personnel policies.

  • Maintains benefit records and statistical reports.

  • Supervises the activities of staff to include work allocation and performance evaluation.

  • Manages and coordinates the day-to-day staffing and operations of benefits function, including special projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant human resource and university policies and procedures.

(occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)
