Key Responsibilities

  • Directs a large process technology group responsible for research, development and implementation in new products and extensions or enhancements to existing product lines

  • Manages exceptionally complex, practical applications of scientific theory and processes in the development and ongoing technical management of the division

  • Interacts and offers solutions to address external customers High Value Problems (HVP) on exceptionally complex process issues involving the division/segment

  • Leads strategic planning efforts to integrate research and development processes with both the unit and the Product Business Group's overall business plan

  • Provides approval guidelines and leadership to reporting process technology managers in the area of long-term strategy related to process development

  • Defines performance metrics and reports on organization's progress against specific goals

  • Responsible for alpha engineering program regarding all process technology related issues for the division/segment

  • Responsible for alpha and beta product release for the division/segment

  • This position originates, develops and executes the most complex technical projects and influences future technology and product strategy.  Involved in prioritizing technology programs and projects which may include more than one technology field.  Substantial knowledge, judgment and intuition is required for those technical challenges that may not have an identified solution by customer, competitors or within industry.  Works on critical complex issues that impact longer term product development and business success measured by three or more of the following: incremental revenue growth, market share increases, key customer penetrations, time to market improvement and commercial value of the work.

  • Within safety guidelines originate, design, perform, collect data, analyze and compile reports on unusually complex engineering experiments and provides solutions which are highly disruptive and ingenious. 

  • Develop innovative solutions as part of substantial track record of significant technology contributions.  Widely recognized internally as one of the company's top experts in their field, consult within the company to solve the most difficult technical problems. Establish credibility with key customers, the external technical community and have the ability to drive projects with customers.

  • Conceive and implement new technology, normally named as primary inventor on numerous critical patents and recognized through multiple awards and/or published papers within the last five years. Recognized by customers and/or industry forums.  Decisions impact major product development programs and business success at the division/segment level. Decisions may also impact the strategic direction and R&D investment for the group or company.

  • Leads through contribution to the development of new principles and concepts.  As a technical role model to  Applied's technical and engineering community, this position acts as a mentor to guide less experienced engineers. Typically is involved in judging the approach and verifying the validity of technical strategies

  • Deep subject matter expert who consults with management and customers on exceptionally complex technical issues.  Viewed as a company resource for specific technology and interacts with the engineering community internally and externally (where appropriate) based on business need. Represents Applied on industry boards/consortia, seen as a thought leader in area of expertise, regarded by customers and external leaders as an expert and thought leader in their field

  • In most cases, this is an Individual Contributor role.  May manage a small group of engineers and/or post doctoral researchers(no more than 8 maximum) who assist in performing research or experimentation.

  • MTS Mgrs must manage less than 8 employees

U.S. Salary Range:

$196,000.00 - $269,500.00

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
