Your role

You'll be a part of our broader Finance group based in Melbourne or Sydney and sit within our Partnership and Regulatory Team. The team is involved in a broad range of activities across the Firm from Partnership arrangements, Partner Equity and Profit distributions, Treasury, Insurance, Tax (incl. but not limited to income tax, Goods and Services Tax (GST) queries, and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) and other regulatory requirements. 

As a Taxation & Treasury Manager, you'll work closely with many parts of the Firm, consulting directly with partners and other stakeholders, and will be challenged, supported and guided as you continue to learn and develop during your career at Allens.

Your core responsibilities as a Taxation & Treasury Manager will include:

Group Tax:

  • Preparation of Taxable Income Calculations and  Statements of Taxable Income.

  • Preparation of income tax returns for the Firm's domestic and international entities (incl. corporations, partnerships and trusts).

  • Preparation of Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) and Stamp Duty returns.

  • Preparation of  tax estimates and annual taxable income memos for partners and pensioners.

  • Overseeing and approving GST free tasks and liaising with Practice Assistants and Lawyers/Partners.

  • Assisting with the preparation of Board papers and memorandums to decision making committees.

  • Main contact for individual and corporate tax queries, incl. FBT and GST related questions.

Treasury:

  • Management of the Firm's cash advance facility and overdraft (incl. tracking the Firm's cashflows on a daily basis, collecting weekly forecast income and outgoings , preparing a weekly cashflow forecast recommendation and provide instructions to the bank).

  • Management of the Firm's Partner Capital Facility (incl. a Hedge arrangement).

  • Preparation of the semi-annual and annual bank covenant reports.

  • Assist with the preparation of Board papers (e.g. annual capital adequacy paper) and internal memorandums to decision making committees.

  • Act as the Firm's main admin person for all banking related queries. This includes adding or removing bank signatories, management (activation and deactivation) of bank tokens, management of the Firm's corporate credit card facilities and dealing with ad hoc queries from Partners and Management.

Insurance:

  • Lead and coordinate the Firm's annual insurance renewals, including the General Insurance program, Professional Indemnity Insurance program, Group Salary Continuance Insurance, Partners Life & TPD insurances, Directors & Officers and Employment Practices Liability insurance, Cyber, Crime and other business related insurance policies.

  • Assist our Office of General Counsel (OGC) and the Head of Partnership & Regulatory with the claims management and the lodgement of insurance claims.

This is a 12-month, fixed term contract opportunity (parental leave cover).

About you

You will have:

  • An Accounting or Commerce degree, and ICAA or CPA membership.

  • Extensive experience in preparing income tax returns for companies, trusts and partnerships. 

  • Profound knowledge of corporate and individual tax legislation.

  • Strong tax and business services experience from a public practice background.

  • Previous experience with Thomson Reuters OneSource is preferred. 

  • Highly proficient in the use of Excel. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build relationships with people at all levels of an organisation, including with Partners and external key stakeholders.

  • A desire to learn, grow, network and mentor others.
