The Controller department is seeking an analytical and highly motivated individual to perform the full range of advanced tax accounting activities in support of assuring timely and accurate tax accounting and compliance.
As a Lead Tax Accountant, you will take on new and complex tax analyses to develop unique insights into our business and assist with the implementation of new tax accounting standards, regulation changes, and planning strategies. Additionally, you will have oversight and perform complex accounting activities for all direct and indirect tax functions at GEICO. This candidate will work closely with external tax partners to provide research and solutions for complex tax issues.
The Lead Tax Accountant will work out of Plaza and report directly to the Corporate Tax Manager.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or another related field
At least four years of experience in public accounting or an applicable corporate accounting environment
Assist with continuous improvement, automation, and internal control initiatives in support of corporate strategies; for example, you will be expected to drive automation of certain tax accounting tasks
Experience designing and maintaining proper internal control structure
Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, VBA)
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment
Must be able to multi-task
Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
Preferred Qualifications:
CPA license or candidate preferred but not required
Experience in effectively leading cross function teams in support of organizational and continuous improvement projects
Previous experience with insurance accounting
Familiarity with Workday Financials general ledger application
Location: Hybrid schedule in office three days a week in: Chevy Chase, MD or New York, NY

Annual Salary
$98,000.00 - $154,000.00The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
