Job Summary:

The Paralegal-Labor and Employment will assist our in-house legal team in employment-related cases.  This role is essential in managing various employment law matters and ensuring compliance with labor regulations.  They will conduct legal research, organize case files, prepare documentation, coordinate case strategy, and assist with administrative tasks. Collaboration within the company is key.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the management of process and documentation surrounding employment law issues, including employee relations, workplace policies, and compliance matters.
  • Draft and review separation agreements, employment agreements, co-broker agreements, and other employment-related documents, for review by attorneys.
  • Create, develop, analyze, and maintain data reports to track and analyze employment-related matters.
  • Manage the severance agreement process flow and assist in developing similar process flows to further efficiencies within the department.
  • Support the investigation process for employee complaints and claims, including document collection and summarization.
  • Prepare presentations, summaries, training materials, and legal documents for review and use by attorneys, as requested.
  • Collaborate with HR and other departments to provide support on employment-related matters.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel and internal clients to gather information and documents required for HR advice and counsel matters.
  • Organize and maintain case materials, draft legal documents and manage documentation related to ongoing legal matters.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of lawsuits, legal research, analyses, and other relevant documentation utilizing legal software.
  • Prepare and compile reports from the legal software, presentations, and materials for upper management review.
  • Collaborate with the legal team to review and proofread documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with company standards.
  • Assist in reviewing invoices and timekeeping submissions by outside counsel.
  • Provide administrative assistance as needed to include entering database related billing and invoice information, entering attorney matters into the legal department’s contract management system, scheduling meetings, maintaining notes of meetings with internal stakeholders and following up on action items from the same, drafting letters, and other projects as requested.
  • Coordinate the preparation of outgoing mail shipments for time-sensitive documents, ensuring accurate labeling, packaging and timely delivery.

Requirements:

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to positively interact with all levels
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly
  • Strong knowledge of employment law principles and regulations
  • Proficient in legal research databases and document management software
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Education/Experience:

  • 2-4 years of experience as a paralegal, preferably in employment law within a corporate environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies or a related field of study.
  • Prior experience as a litigation paralegal, legal assistant or related role in the legal field is strongly preferred. 
  • Experience with law department case management systems and litigation reporting.
