Position Scope:
Under general guidance, is responsible for the day to day mechanical maintenance functions to keep the generating station safe and reliable. Helped to plan and execute forced outages including arranging contractors and support staff to perform the work scope. As a member of the plant leadership team, provides leadership to others through daily contact, coaching, counseling, advising and teaching. Oversees, monitors and evaluates performance of direct reports and others within the reporting organization. Assist in preparing, control and administer of complex budgets to achieve maximum business results. Evaluates methods, procedures and alternative approaches to accomplishing the organizational goals relating to the overall performance, cost, efficiency and reliability of the generating station. Achieved a Certified Weld Inspector License to aid in training and testing of plant personnel and to help in weld repairs made throughout the plant by various contractors.
Basic Requirements:
- Degreed candidates must have five (5) years of experience in progressively responsible assignments demonstrating success in various management / supervisory positions with the power generation, maintenance, or engineering areas.
- Non-degreed candidates must have seven (7) years of experience in progressively responsible assignments demonstrating success in various management / supervisory positions with the power generation, maintenance, or engineering areas.
- Three (3) years supervisory experience in managing work team activities.
- Demonstrable experience in the analysis of and correction of problems in power plant equipment, plant maintenance and plant operations.
- General understanding of pressure vessel and boiler welding procedures and practices.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience contributing to the safe, environmentally compliant, efficient and fiscally responsible operation and maintenance of a power generation facility.
- Demonstrated familiarity with work management processes and asset management strategies.
- Working in and managing union personnel.
- Ability to demonstrate conduct conforming to a set of values and accepted standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work within multiple software / computer systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing clearly and concisely.
- Results oriented, self-motivated with the ability to accept responsibility and accountable for his/her actions.
- Demonstrated familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel, OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC, ASTM, and ANSI code requirements
Primary Responsibilities:
- Directs plant maintenance personnel and contractors as required ensuring that plant reliability and efficiency are maintained.
- Follows and manages the work order program. Maintains the work order program so that manpower, equipment, and materials are allocated effectively and efficiently to meet maintenance schedules and operating requirements.
- Schedules and manages preventive and predictive maintenance in accordance with equipment and systems requirements.
- Constantly reviews and improves maintenance processes and ensures that maintenance personnel are properly trained and adhere to established procedures and standards in accordance with prudent industry practices.
- Keeps the Maintenance Manager informed of abnormal or critical situations and seeks advice on matters outside his/her knowledge or authority.
- Maintains essential records and files from which management reports are to be prepared and distributed.
- Participating in budgetary preparation, tracking and analysis.
- Recommends the scheduling of and supervises the performance of overhauls of plant equipment and systems by outside contractors and/or plant staff.
- Provides input on inventory of spare parts consistent with preventive maintenance and repair requirements.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
- Application of technical skills and ingenuity to correct equipment problems causing equipment downtime and maintenance work..
- Performs analysis of asset data to identify recommendations and/or areas for improvements.
- Administers policies, guides, and practices assuring safe operation of the AES/IPL system and that safety remains the foremost priority.
- Coordinate with reliability engineering including the development of preventative maintenance practices, analysis of equipment history and re-engineering points of repetitive equipment failures, develops and monitor life cycle asset management plans.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and heat and cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office but may become loud at the plant site. Near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. Exposed to protected and unprotected heights, which requires the use of a personal fall protection system (harness/lifeline). Occasionally exposed to vibration and fumes or airborne particles which will require the use of personal protective equipment including respirators; flame retardant clothing; self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), etc. Enter and work in confined space areas.
