The Attorney is responsible for providing legal advice, opinions and support to help work towards our goals in addition to initiating and supervising project case management to ensure their timely and efficient completion. This role will provide advice and recommendations for action to internal leaders regarding matters with meaningful impact on business activities and operations. The ability to use good judgment, collaborate with others and develop and obtain approvals from senior leaders for situation specific strategies and approaches are keys to success.

Responsibilities/Expectations:

  • Identifies and assesses legal issues and risks for assigned area(s) of responsibility; recommends and initiates appropriate courses of action
  • Responds to our internal business partners' requests for information and provides advice related to transactions, negotiations and other legal related tasks and activities
  • Researches legal issues to ensure up-to-date knowledge and interpretation of laws, regulations, case precedents, court and regulatory orders
  • Monitors compliance with federal, state, and local laws and industry regulations; identifies potential ethical issues and advises appropriate parties for resolution
  • Handles outside counsel in alignment with defined legal strategies
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Years of Experience:

  • Required: Juris Doctorate from ABA accredited law school; member of State Bar Association and admitted to practice in the state hired, or eligible to become admitted in the state hired within one (1) year of date of hire, with current CLE compliance
  • Preferred: Minimum of two (2) years' relevant legal expertise or experience in the energy industry

Shift/Work Hours/Travel Requirements:

  • Willing to travel as needed

Other Requirements:

  • Demonstrates excellent organizational/interpersonal skills and safety as the utmost priority
  • Needs proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and PC skills
  • Exhibits strong written and verbal communication skills; including experience in drafting legal documents
  • Experience in legal research and analysis
  • Demonstrates detailed analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of substantive law
  • Preferred: Knowledge, competence, and experience with document management and legal hold systems and industry service providers
  • Preferred: Experience with Supply Chain and Real Estate transactions
  • Preferred: Minimum of one (1) year major law firm or in-house legal department experience
  • Preferred: Minimum of one (1) year of experience with commercial transactions, including preparation and review of commercial contracts and other legal documents
