Data Engineer Trainee

Intern Opportunity

Role Title: Data Engineer Trainee

The Engineer Trainee will work with supervision and guidance to apply basic engineering skills, tools, practices, and techniques to all deliverables. You will work as part of a diverse team to deliver client centred solutions by collaborating with cross-functional groups and contribute to the overall platform development. As a member of the engineering team and as an individual you will gain an appreciation and understanding of data and analytical concepts such as: data modelling, development, testing, governance, security, performance and DevSecOps to name a few. You will take ownership and accountability of the platform you are working within including quality, stability, maintenance, all driven in support of our clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, install and/or test basic data and analytical solutions that are high-quality, innovative, efficient, secure, creative, scalable, adaptable, dynamic, fully performing and comply with all standards and best practices in support of business and Client outcomes and objectives
  • Help make data more useful and accessible for consumers of data
  • Execute full software development life cycle (SDLC) leveraging Agile best practices
  • Develop all required deliverables to deliver technical solution(s) seeking business and Client feedback
  • Write well-designed, testable, flexible, and scalable data models and supporting code
  • Transform and map data from source to destination using various technology solutions
  • Produce specifications and determine operational feasibility
  • Integrate basic software components into a fully functional software system
  • Develop basic software verification (testing) plans and quality assurance procedures
  • Document and maintain technical solution functionality
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems
  • Deploy programs and evaluate business and Client feedback
  • Ensure software is updated with latest features
  • Augment existing data sets with other data sources (i.e. external) to make reusable data assets
  • Support a "data-first" approach to problem solving and designing IT solution

Key Skills

  • Basic data engineering, analytics, data management and IT solutions development (programming)
  • Ability to apply basic testing skills, tools/frameworks, techniques, processes, and principles to software solutions in support of defect management and reporting
  • Basic knowledge of performance testing coding best practices, and load and performance testing
  • Basic understanding of data governance, data protection, privacy, and security best practices
  • Technically minded problem solver
