Job Summary:
Key Member of the USFS Senior Leadership Team owning the development, tracking and achievement of financial goals, objectives, and the plan and forecast for the USBL Market. Responsible for achieving the financial results and plan, as well as the financial planning & analysis of capital planning, customer profitability, implementing and supporting the recipe for growth initiatives, routine and accurate forecasting of key assumptions, assessing financial risks, driving opportunities and mitigating risks, supporting the operational team in inventory control, executing financial controls and supporting the Sysco Business Services teams with the close of the financial statements, accounts payable/receivable, and credit & collections. Partner with the Senior Leadership Team and other key functions and teams in achieving these goals, while hiring, developing and managing a diverse team of finance colleagues.
As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, this role reports directly to the CFO of US Food Service and has a dotted line reporting relationship to the President of the USBL Market. This role often serves as a business advisor and therefore is required to contribute broadly across the business and functions. This role will also play a critical part in helping the team build and execute strategy to accelerate growth, drive profitability in all pillars of the income statement, as well as drive capital planning, manage working capital, ensuring return on invested capital, and executing and supporting our recipe for growth initiatives.
This is an executive finance position responsible for directing and coordinating activities of multiple sites, multiple regions, and functions by performing the following duties personally or through supporting team members. Interaction with other functions, other markets, other business units, the Sysco Global Support Center and the Sysco Business Services teams within Sysco is paramount in performing the duties of this position.
Duties and Responsibilities
Executive Leadership - Partner with the Market President, Market and Region and USFS Senior Leadership teams to establish the plan, develop key drivers to achieving plan and lead the business.
Drive Results - Partner with the Senior Management team, other functions, other business units, and team members to drive execution of key action items to achieve plan results and return on invested capital.
Business Review and Analysis - Analyze the results of operations and review and explain key drivers of significant variances to plan and forecasted results. Develop and drive actions to continuously improve results. Explain results in a clear and concise way to the Senior Management Team, USFS Executive Leadership Team and Sysco Executive Leadership Team.
Financial Responsibility – Responsible for the entire set of financial statements, including the balance sheet and cash flows, and key financial metrics (e.g., volume, gross profit, cost per piece, free cash flow, working capital, etc.).
Planning - Develop the three year long-range plan and the annual profit plan in conjunction with the Senior Management Team. Ensuring accuracy of key assumptions, capital planning, core business activities and initiatives.
Forecasting - Develop accurate financial forecasts and periodically update as forecasting cadence dictates. Ensure key assumptions are accurate. Assess actuals to forecast looking for future trends that can be actioned to accelerate opportunities or mitigate risks.
Capital Projects- Serve as the point person on capital projects. Analyze and validate costs, create IRR modeling, and present to Executive Leadership for spending approval.
Customer Profitability – Partner with the Senior Leadership team and the sales team, to analyze and validate profitability models for customer agreements. Monitor and action customer compliance with key contract terms or delivered margin requirements.
Operations – Partner with the Senior Leadership Team and the operations team, to identify opportunities for improvements in our operational performance, such as shrink, inventory control and cost per piece.
Talent Development -Select, train, and coach a diverse team of Supervisors, Managers, and Directors to maximize their professional growth. Provide professional development opportunities through training, projects, and coaching.
Cross Functional Partnership – Collaborate and partner with other functions, other groups within finance, other markets and business units, and the Sysco Global Support Center and the Sysco Business Services teams to achieve financial goals.
Core Business Activities -Partner with the Sysco Business Services Team to support the accounting and close processes for the business as well as processing of Accounts Receivable, Credit, Fixed Assets, and Accounts Payable. Ensure adherence and compliance to GAAP standards and Sysco’s policies.
Approvals- Provide review and approvals, as required by Sysco’s policies, for material, non-standard activity, including new material contracts (e.g., customer, supplier, and lease agreements). Ensuring the agreements are in line with our financial goals and Sysco’s policies.
Problem Solve - Troubleshoot and resolve escalated issues. Partnering and communicating clearly aligned plans with the Market, Sysco Global Support Center and the Sysco Business Services teams.
Continuous Process Improvement & Alignment - Work collaboratively with others within and outside of the Market and our finance function to identify, develop and implement process improvement plans, simplify and improve processes, reduce costs, prevent loss, and to ensure that work is completed accurately, on time and driving positive results.
SOX- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley controls, implementing changes to controls as required by our Policy and Controls team, and ensuring any findings of internal audit and external audit are remediated in accordance with the agreed upon timeline.
Other - Perform a variety of other duties across a wide spectrum to evaluate the financial impact of plans and processes to achieve goals, assist other departments in their goals and processes, measure customer profitability, perform numerous daily functions, etc.
Travel- Ability to travel to various sites and the Sysco Global Support Center. Expected travel 50%.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business, master's degree, or MBA.
Minimum of 8 years of previous experience in a leadership role working within a finance/accounting environment that supports multiple teams/sites.
Technical Skills and Abilities
Strong financial and accounting background, including an understanding of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow management, and general finance and budgeting
Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial management software (e.g. Workday)
Proficient in building presentations in PowerPoint
Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
Ability to strategize and solve problems
Ability to translate and communicate complex financial or accounting problems to non-finance functions
Foodservice experience preferred
Large, public company experience preferred
Experience working and leading in a hybrid working environment
