The Manager of Systems Engineering will be responsible for leading and solving for server and cloud systems architecture, systems engineering and design, and providing Level 3 support of the overall company IT infrastructure both on-premise and in the cloud.  The highly technical Manager will lead and mentor a team of technical employees, contractors, and outsourced managed services covering operations, engineering, and 24x7 Network Operations Center roles.  A culture of excellent customer service, accountability, and measured optimal performance of team members and systems is expected. The Manager will partner with internal stakeholders, supporting regular internal service reviews with business leaders which ensure all areas of IT are delivering the services needed to keep the company’s technology working successfully for our team members.  They will also partner with other IT leaders to ensure support metrics and service level agreements are appropriately measured and managed. The Manager will manage relationships with key vendors such as hardware and software suppliers, conducting regular contract and service reviews to ensure the company is well supported and fiscally responsible.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Team management, coaching, mentoring including the development and measurement of policies, procedures, and performance KPIs.

  • Server and systems architecture, project, and solution design.

  • Work with the Cybersecurity team to implement, monitor, and support the security initiatives of the company.

  • Manage the budgeting, maintenance, and life cycle of the company’s server and cloud systems including but not limited to, servers, storage, operating systems, and licensing.

  • Systems project and support delivery.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in IT support and system administration or engineering roles in a corporate IT environment.

  • 3 years of experience in leading IT team members in a management capacity.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working adjacent to support and networking technology teams.

  • Direct hands-on experience with server architectures including Windows and Linux operating systems, cloud-based IaaS and PaaS models, system design, planning, and implementation.

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of server virtualization, clustering and high availability, data backup and disaster recovery solutions and concepts, storage area networks, on-premise server systems, cloud migration strategies, networking protocols, client/server architectures, VDI, forward/reverse proxies, load balancers, DNS, DHCP, and other applicable protocols, system patching.

  • Experience managing server-based applications and working with enterprise applications teams supporting business driven projects.

  • Experience working with change management in an enterprise IT organization.  At Akumin, change is regulated by HIPAA laws and compliance standards.

  • Experience implementing monitoring and proactive issue management processes so as to reduce downtime across the organization.  

  • 5% Travel may be required. 

Preferred

  • 3 years of experience in healthcare technology supporting roles is preferred.

  • Experience with telephony routing, IVR, and call center / contact center solutions is highly desirable.

  • Experience with hybrid cloud environments and the Google Cloud Platform.

  • Experience with multiple on-premise enterprise hardware vendors such as HP, Dell/EMC, IBM, and so on.
