Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is seeking experienced, motivated, and dedicated leaders and educators to participate in the design and delivery of an innovative four-year medical school curriculum that engages medical students in active and novel learning.

Job Description:

The Paralegal position will involve moderate level of difficulty and report to the School of Medicine’s General Counsel and provide administrative/paralegal support to the Chief Compliance Officer with routine aspects of legal and regulatory research, data compilation and analysis, drafting legal documents, contract management system coordinator and conveying routine legal information to stakeholders. Duties of this position are complex in nature, requiring considerable discretion in the handling of confidential information and sensitive matters; and the ability to work proactively to balance multiple tasks.

Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions Specific To The Position:

  • Conducts routine legal and factual information research and data compilation, as directed.
  • Compiles, reviews and organizes information for meetings as appropriate.
  • Provide routine paralegal assistance to stakeholders as directed.
  • Keep and maintain corporate governance documents.
  • Manage internal sources for document and information retrieval; researching and retrieving documentation and information; collecting and reviewing documents to determine suitability of information for production and document confidentiality; ensuring legal documents comply with internal compliance rules; and making assessments and categorizing information.
  • Attend meetings as requested and synthesize complex discussions including taking notes, identifying key takeaways, and following-up on actionable items.
  • Provide notarial services to School of Medicine employees.
  • Maintain case files.
  • Act as the project manager for various legal projects and work independently and in concert with various stakeholders on projects from conception to completion.
  • Provide clear project direction to ensure projects meet deadlines and provide consistent updatesto appropriate stakeholders.
  • Partnering with resources from across the organization, business units, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Coordinate the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer’s schedules, expenses, travel, and other administrative needs

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of four (4) years relevant work experience.
  • Corporate/law firm paralegal or other relevant in-house legal, compliance or records management experience preferred.
  • Paralegal certificate preferred.
  • Experience in process improvement and project management.
  • Possess a strong commitment to customer service and organizational mission.
  • Highest ethics as they relate to all aspects of business.
  • Self-motivated, strategic thinker who anticipates future issues and opportunities, recommending solutions to complicated and varied problems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in accuracy, attention to detail, and follow-through on assigned tasks.
  • Experience in a professional communications role with stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of the principles and procedures of legal research.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting platforms.

About Us!

Founded in 2021 by philanthropist Alice Walton, the School of Medicine will offer a medical degree-granting program that builds on conventional medicine with an inclusive, compassionate, and whole health approach. The School of Medicine embraces self-care to empower students to care for their patients and themselves and helps them rise to the health challenges of the 21st century with a focus on mental, physical, social, and emotional health. The School will have an attached clinic for training in these concepts. Currently, the School of Medicine seeks to be a national medical school with the goal of welcoming its inaugural class in 2025, pending programmatic and institutional accreditation.

Construction of the 154,000 square-foot building has begun with the goal of completing and welcoming the first class in Fall 2025, pending accreditation. AWSOM will be located east of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas.
