Summary

Rakuten Rewards is seeking a contracts specialist to join our legal team.  The position will be an in-office role located in San Mateo, CA. The position will report to the Senior Corporate Counsel and will be a member of the commercial transactions and operations team.  The contracts specialist will gain valuable exposure to transactions in a variety of practice areas, such as marketing, technology, e-commerce, and retail.  This is a great opportunity to join a company and team that will challenge you and support your growth.  We are seeking someone who thrives in a collaborative environment as our team interfaces with members across the Rakuten Rewards organization, including Marketing, Product, Operations, and Sales. 

Responsibilities

  • Review and revise commercial agreements (procurement contracts, consulting agreements, paid marketing insertion orders, and non-disclosure agreements) under the supervision of attorneys.
  • Support the contract administration lifecycle, including responding to and tracking inbound requests via contract administration platform, routing escalations to stakeholders/reviewers, and facilitating contract execution.
  • Assist with management of forms, templates, training materials, playbooks, and procedures, including developing and improving contract intake and processing system.
  • Support due diligence projects in connection with corporate transactions and strategic partnerships.
  • Assist with contractual-based discovery requests related to disputes, litigation, and pre-litigation matters.
  • Create and deliver legal and compliance reporting.
  • Provide paralegal support to the entire legal team, as needed.


Qualifications

  • A bachelors or associates degree
  • 1-4 years of relevant work experience in an office or customer service environment (summer internships constitute work experience tenure)
  • Significant experience using Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Docusign
  • A self-starter who can navigate a job that requires responsiveness and problem-solving
  • Quick learner who can thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly organized and a meticulous attention to detail to spot inconsistencies or non-standard provisions in contracts
  • Excellent business writing and oral communication skills
  • Positive demeanor and ability to perform work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work on multiple assignments each day and balance competing demands in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment (not easily overwhelmed)
  • Professional demeanor (we are a tech company, but we are still the legal department)

Preferred (Not Mandatory)

  • Experience working in a legal environment or capacity (e.g., legal intern, paralegal, contract administrator etc.).
  • Experience with contract management systems and legal billing systems, such as SimpleLegal

At the time of posting, Rakuten expects the base compensation for this role to be within the range shown below. Individual compensation will vary based on job-related factors, including the skills, qualifications, and experience of the successful candidate as well as business need and geographic location. The successful applicant for this role will be eligible for discretionary bonus, health, vision, dental insurance, 401k matching, PTO, Volunteer Time Off (VTO), and other employee benefits as the company implements.
