A new and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Santander L2 Economic Crime Risk team as Sanctions Policy and Complex Advisory Manager. This team is in charge for maintaining the Ring-Fenced Bank’s (RFB) Sanctions Policy and Standards.

The team ensures that Policies and Standards reflect external legislation, regulatory requirements, industry best practice and requirements issued by Grupo Santander. They are also an advisory escalation point for complex issues, and provides guidance on new, emerging, and current regulatory issues and developments.

You'll be providing advice and expertise on Sanctions matters to various stakeholders across the RFB. You'll be working closely with senior stakeholders, other key functions and business areas including Group Financial Crime Compliance and our first line Economic Crime Risk advisory colleagues. You'll also engage with our second line External Engagement Team, attend various internal and external stakeholder events and contribute to various external working groups, panels and benchmarking exercises.

The difference you’ll make:

  • Playing a key role in the definition, maintenance, and oversight of implementation of Sanctions related policy documents
  • Overseeing the effective implementation of the policy documents and representing Sanctions UK externally on technical sanctions matters
  • Managing key sanctions trackers and supporting with the review of potential sanctions breaches, evasion attempts and policy exceptions
  • Providing guidance on new and emerging regulatory issues and developments and communicating the policy position via appropriate communication channels
  • Assisting with the compilation and reporting of Management Information to senior stakeholders, key forums, and committees
  • Providing Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice and guidance in relation to sanctions-related queries received from various stakeholders with your extensive knowledge of US, UK, EU and UN sanctions regulations
     

What you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience in Financial Crime, specifically in Sanctions and Sanctions Risk Management
  • Expertise in drafting and experience in briefings to senior management, complex advisory responses, and financial crime policy documents

It would also be nice for you to have:

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the UK financial services regulatory framework, industry trends and best practice
  • Ability to manage and analyse large volumes of data and draw out key conclusions for senior Management
  • Experience of applying informed and risk-based judgement from a regulatory perspective to commercial situations
  • Excellent analytical, interpretation, influencing and communication skills; with an ability to communicate and network effectively to influence management and external parties

What else you need to know:

Our preferred location for this 12 month fixed-term contract role is Milton Keynes, but we’ll also consider locating the role in Glasgow, Bradford and Sheffield.

To support this, we offer site-based contracts with a hybrid working pattern and our expected level of attendance in an office is at least 12 days per month (pro-rata for part-time roles).

As well as a competitive salary, you’ll enjoy a benefits package that you can tailor to your needs. For contract roles, your salary, bonus (where eligible) and certain benefits will be prorated to reflect your contract duration.
