What you will do
As Statutory Finance & Tax Ops Lead, you will be responsible for statutory compliance activities in Malta, with overall responsibility for review of the Maltese financial statements, as part of the EMEA Legal Entity Stewardship (“LES”) team.
The LES team owns the legal entity life cycle from US GAAP through statutory financial statements to direct tax return and has responsibility for managing the statutory financial statements preparation and audit, and the tax operations (including tax compliance and reporting, controversy, projects and M&A activity).
You will provide advice and guidance to ensure compliance with local financial statutory regulations and GAAP, management of the statutory audit process and monitor the overall compliance with Johnson Controls´ LES and corporate accounting policies, procedures and timelines. You will also be responsible of all tax operations in Malta including support and advice to the Tax Planning team for transactions going through Malta.
How you will do it
- Review of the Maltese legal entities’ statutory financial statements and direct tax returns as prepared by the Centre of Excellence (COE).
- Training and technical support on statutory finance matters to the LES team.
- Overall review of the US GAAP vs. Local GAAP bridge (extended trial balance) and relevant adjustments as prepared by the COE.
- Analyse financial data and reconcile General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to Statutory adjustments.
- Review audited financial statements including footnote disclosures as prepared by the COE.
- Monitor and review analyse and journal entries for investments in affiliates.
- Support the oversight of tax operations in the region.
- Work to implement necessary changes through collaboration with business process owners.
- Maintain knowledge of local GAAP and Statutory accounting developments.
- Support the organisation’s tax policy objectives.
- Training and technical support on statutory finance matters to the COE LES team.
- Financial reporting for the corporate business units responsible for ERP development and the centralized procurement function.
- Review and approval of the legal entities’ statutory financial statements as prepared by the Centre of Excellence (COE).
- Overall monitoring and review of US GAAP tax reporting, prepared by Centre of Excellence (COE).
- Overall coordination of the financial statements audit cycle
- Execution of audit plan, in conjunction with COE’s, external auditors, controllers and all other parties involved.
- Fully support and coordinate different projects initiated by corporate/global/regional team, e.g. corporate initiatives, process optimization, ERP upgrade, divestiture etc.
What we look for
Required
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in Statutory audit and accounting.
- Maltese GAAP and IFRS knowledge along with experience of Maltese tax system
- Computer competency and familiarity with a variety of application software
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English
- Knowledge of US GAAP accounting principles would be desirable but not essential.
- Self-starter, detail-oriented and proactive with focus on accuracy, in an environment with changing priorities and time constraints.
- Hands on mentality, team player, able to work in a flexible manner.
Preferred
We’d ideally love you to hold a Master's degree in Finance or Economics with focus on finance along with experience in an international corporation although this isn’t essential. Any knowledge/experience of SAP R/3, Oracle, iScala, JD Edwards, HFM will also be an advantage.
