Job Description Summary:

Applicant will lead and direct the Financial Planning and Analysis (FPA) team responsible for the reporting, business intelligence and advanced analytical efforts that facilitate the achievement of the University’s strategic missions through cutting-edge decision support and optimization of operational activities as well as Financial Planning for key strategic initiatives for the institution.

  • Contribute to the strategic planning process along with other University leaders.
  • Proactively identify and prioritize areas and projects for which the institution would benefit from detailed planning and analysis efforts.
  • Develop financial models and analyses to increase understanding of the economics of current operations and to assess contemplated future initiatives.
  • Ensure information is effectively presented to leadership to support key financial decisions and initiatives.
  • Define operational activities that support the strategic plan and advance the mission of the University.
  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment, enthusiasm, integrity, and pride that becomes the practice of others.
  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring for FP&A team members to ensure their continued development and ability to achieve their objectives.
  • Respond to requests from KUMC leadership (EVC, CFO and others) to better understand the financial structure, drivers, and opportunities across all the various missions and organizations of KUMC.
  • Identify, analyze, and recommend opportunities to partner with KU Lawrence campus on a multitude of operational and financial processes.
  • Assist the AVC of Finance and the CFO in identifying opportunities within the institution to streamline processes, reduce costs and eliminate inefficiencies.
  • Work with School and other University leadership to deliver central reporting to the federal government, Kansas Board of Regents, and other external agencies.
  • Promote a business intelligence culture to the KUMC community, and work to make the use of business intelligence pervasive at KUMC.
  • Participate actively in business intelligence and other similar professional organizations to assure KUMC receives current information on issues and trends affecting data analyses, reporting and data management.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in the Business, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or other relevant field.

Work Experience:

  • Experience managing an analytics team with demonstrated success developing and leading a team, building morale, and accomplishing objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience in presenting complex analysis and information to institutional leadership.
  • Experience in financial data modeling and process improvement skills as evidenced by application materials. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of financial, human resource and grants systems and data as evidenced by application materials.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), including advanced Excel skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in the Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or other relevant field.

Work Experience

  • Significant experience with the analysis of data in an academic health center.
  • Experience developing reporting in, and working with data from, PeopleSoft and Workday ERP systems.
  • Experience with enterprise-level analytics and business intelligence tools.
  • Experience with data acquisition, modeling, and database management (e.g., SQL).
  • Project management experience leading medium to large scale complex projects.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
