The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Engineering Expert Modeling & Simulation (m/f/*) Polymer Processing in Hilden or Neuss, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Leading technical projects on developing models and simulations with flow behavior of complex viscoelastic fluids
  • Apply Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in designing and optimizing polymer processing hardware, including die design
  • Designing and building models for process development and process optimization, including melt flow predictions for new materials, and specialty polymers
  • Defining and developing new product and/or new application opportunities with 3M Division partners
  • Leading efforts to drive growth through new technology development and advancement in the corporate research laboratory 

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Engineering or similar
  • Fundamental experience in polymer processing modeling and simulation  

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Broad knowledge in the development of physics or statistics-based models to describe polymer flow
  • Hands-on experience in polymer processing, including co-extrusion, film casting, blown film, and compounding
  • In-depth experience in mold or die design, including die and mold fabrication
  • Strong intercultural communication skills, teamwork, and problem-solving ability
  • Experience in transferring technology from laboratory to pilot/manufacturing plant settings
  • Ability to work well both in multi-disciplinary teams and independently
