Primary Duties:
1. Support enterprise-wide network components, technologies, and related infrastructure, e.g., Wireless, WAN, LAN, VPN, IP addressing.
2. Provide day-to-day hands-on support of network and application environments both on-site and remotely, encompassing tasks such as port configuration and cabling.
3. Document and implement automation of all day-to-day operations and prepare operational and technical documentation.
4. Schedule and perform installation and upgrades, and maintain them in accordance with established Information Technology policies and procedures.
5. Actively monitor, troubleshoot, and fine-tune the network to attain optimal performance levels.
6. Ensure configuration recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups.
7. Conduct routine hardware and software audits of network devices to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines. Secures network system by enforcing University policies and procedures.
8. Provide 3rd-level support for issues escalated from IT services to accurately test, identify, repair, resolve, and document technical issues.
9. Interface with software vendors and suppliers in support of university applications and platforms.
10. Ensure our platforms and solutions are following modern standards and best practices and look for opportunities to implement new technologies. Ensure that all work and changes are performed in such a way as to minimize disruptions to the university community. Maintain technical and functional awareness and competence.
11. Serve as a subject matter expert in more than one technology, for the systems and environments they are responsible for.
12. Work ticketing system incident, request, and change management processes as needed.
13. Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• High school diploma or equivalent AND five (5) years of related work experience.
OR,
• Bachelor’s degree AND two (2) years of related work experience.
• Understanding of TCP/IP and the OSI stack
• Intermediate knowledge of common network hardware and cabling including Ethernet,
Routers, Switches, Wireless access points, Firewalls, and other associated hardware.
• Intermediate knowledge of IP Networking, Routing, Switching and Network Operating Systems, including configuration, processes, files, and I/O systems; networking services and common routing protocols.
• Knowledge and hands-on experience with VPN technologies.
• Knowledge of network design, devices, network appliances, network architecture, protocols and network topology.
• Knowledge of system security.
• Knowledge of troubleshooting network traffic and communication problems utilizing packet sniffers, log parsers, or other utilities relative to problem diagnosis and remediation.
• Knowledge and understanding of industry trends/new technologies with an ability to apply this to day-to-day work activities.
• Experience with network performance tuning, a basic understanding of Windows/Linux systems, SD-WAN technologies, and Network Monitoring Systems.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to work through processes, identify and implement process improvements and resolve complex matters.
• Experience working under pressure, multi-task, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain professional and collegial relationships with peers, customers, administrators, etc.
• Must be able to protect and safeguard sensitive information with the highest level of confidentiality and ensure legal and ethical compliance.
• Cooperative team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty/staff of all levels throughout the university.
• Strong customer service skills with ability to provide systems expertise and respond to 24 x 7 issues.
• Must be able to work with limited to moderate direct supervision.
• Evening and weekend work as necessary.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Higher education systems knowledge and experience driving technical innovation.
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment. Some travel may be required, and evening and weekend work as needed.
Salary: $75,000 - $85,000; Commensurate with experience
