Western Alliance is seeking a Business Controls Governance Senior Manager. This role is aligned to the Business Controls and Testing Department (BCT) Governance team, who are accountable for implementing an effective risk and controls governance program within the first line of defense. This role will lead and support process improvements and oversight of risk-taking activities throughout the Company. The Business Controls Senior Manager will be working closely with internal BCT partners, all 1LOD Business Areas, Enterprise Risk Management, Strategic Risk Management, and other second line-of-defense teams, and risk liaisons throughout the Company.
The successful candidate will be a motivated team player who has expertise in executive and enterprise program development and management, is a self-starter who is accustomed to working in fast-paced, complex, evolving organizations with diverse stakeholders, and is an agile individual who iis capable of withstanding challenges and adapt quickly with an execution mindset.

What we are looking for:

  • Support BCT Director of Governance in 1LOD risk governance management activities.
  • Lead as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert for BCT and 1LOD business partners; establishing oneself as a single point of contact for governance related matters. 
  • Proactively engage with BCT partner and 1LOD business units to quantify needs and identify solutions to support business needs, strategic planning and emerging risk identification.
  • Develop effective 1LOD Executive Control Committee including charter, ongoing required documentation, and operational protocol and escalation.
  • Manage flow of standardized Board, Committee, and Management reporting.
  • Create presentations for executive management that effectively communicate key messages, insights, and roadmaps.
  • Manage BCT department governance processes. Including (but not limited to):
    • Build and implement a BCT maturity assessment and cross-team maturity action plan and roadmap to drive continuous improvement in department processes
    • Establishing and managing an effective BCT change management process to implement internal process changes as well as across 1LOD as applicable
    • Maintain BCT’s disaster recovery/business continuity/records retention and management
    • Maintaining/enhancing existing BCT team Skills Assessment
    • Manage exam preparation and requested documents delivery
  • Promote BCT cross-team and 1LOD collaboration.
  • Participate in developing and enhancing the first line of defense standards for risk management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Organizational Management, or related field
  • 10+ years experience in Enterprise Program Governance, Program Management, Project Management, Strategy Management, or related field
  • Experience in banking or similar federally regulated financial services environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence senior management
  • Superior attention to detail and ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities while maintaining a view of the big picture
  • Excellent PowerPoint knowledge required
  • Experience with business workflow tools preferred (e.g., Workfront, Workiva, MS Power Platform tools) and GRC system(s)
  • Industry certifications such as Agile, Lean Six Sigma, PMP, PPM PgMP, PfMP, MPM a plus
