The Distinguished Designer, Operations role at Walmart is a pivotal leadership position that will drive the operational framework for our enterprise-wide design strategy, ensuring the seamless delivery of digital people experiences across the organization. This leader will play a key role in establishing and scaling operational standards, workflows, and processes that empower designers to create consumer-grade tools and experiences for our associates across both campus and field populations.
As a strategic partner to business, engineering, and product teams, you will streamline design operations to support efficient collaboration and execution. This role focuses on creating the infrastructure that supports the design team, including resource management, process optimization, and cross-functional alignment, enabling the team to focus on delivering innovative, user-centered solutions. You will help define metrics for success and lead operational improvements that ensure design quality, consistency, and efficiency.

Deep expertise in design operations, including resource management, process optimization, and workflow standardization to support scalable design execution.
Proven ability to build and manage design systems, ensuring consistency across platforms and streamlining design processes.
Strong collaboration and leadership skills, with a track record of aligning design teams with cross-functional partners, including product, engineering, and business stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience in operationalizing design strategies, with a focus on improving efficiency, speed, and quality of design outcomes.
Excellent communication and storytelling abilities, with experience presenting operational frameworks and strategies to executive leadership.
Data-driven approach to improving design team performance, using metrics and feedback to inform process improvements and resource allocation.
Track record of delivering high-quality, high-impact design solutions within complex, fast-paced environments while maintaining operational clarity.
Strategic mindset with a focus on systems thinking, able to optimize both design outputs and the processes that enable them.
Experience in leading change management initiatives that support design team growth, operational scalability, and continuous improvement.

You’ll make an impact by:
Drive the operational strategy for the UX design organization, developing and implementing processes, tools, and frameworks that enable the design team to execute efficiently and at scale, in alignment with the Group Director, UX's vision.
Act as a trusted operational leader, supporting the Group Director, UX in strategic planning, prioritization, and aligning design initiatives with broader business and design objectives.
Oversee the optimization of design workflows, ensuring cross-functional alignment between design, product, engineering, and business teams to deliver high-quality outcomes efficiently.
Lead resource planning, team development, and allocation efforts to ensure the design team is well-supported, equipped, and positioned to meet current and future demands.
Establish and maintain operational metrics and reporting structures that track design team performance, while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
Ensure consistency in design delivery by managing design standards, governance, and documentation across the UX team, fostering alignment and quality across digital touchpoints.
Foster a culture of collaboration, experimentation, and growth within the design team, promoting best practices in design operations and advocating for process enhancements.
Support the Group Director, UX in stakeholder communication, preparing compelling presentations and reports that articulate design strategies, roadmaps, and their impact on business goals.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in UX Design, Business, Communications, Fine Arts, or related field and 10+ years of experience in Product Design or related field. 3+ years of experience building and leading high performing teams. 3+ years of experience leading cross-functional teams.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00-$260,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
