Job Description:

Responsibilities

The Hourly Data Analyst II will work in the Public Health Information Group (PHIG) to assist with development of the New York State Health Assessment 2024 and aide in activities related to the launch of the Prevention Agenda 2025-2030. The incumbent will assist with gathering data/create visualizations and summaries from a variety of data sources including but not limited to birth data, death data, hospital discharge data, immunization data, the American Community Survey, sexual health data, HIV data, and other large statewide surveys as appropriate.  Using various software (e.g. SAS, TABLEAU, PowerPoint), the incumbent will be responsible for using the internet to locate relevant data, or assist with making data requests. The incumbent will aide in co-creating visualizations of various indicators to assist with the summarization and of the broader status of the health of New Yorkers. The incumbent will assist in writing descriptive summaries of the population’s health status and demographics, as well as contribute to related presentations. The incumbent will also help conduct data management, cleaning, and basic analysis as needed. The incumbent will also assist with related organizational tasks as assigned to help prepare for the launch of the Prevention Agenda 2025-2030. 

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a Master’s or Doctoral program in epidemiology, statistics, public health, or a related field.  Experience using Microsoft Office, and SAS. 

Preferred Qualifications

Experienced with qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Past experience using statistical analysis software such as SAS, R and/or TABLEAU for analysis and visualizations. Proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word for data analysis and summarizing results. Experience with database management desired. Prior work experience in a public health setting, or with public health surveillance systems. 

Conditions of Employment
Grant funded, hourly position expected to last through 07/11/2025. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.


Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
