Position Overview

The Insulet UX team is seeking a customer-obsessed Principal UX Designer to join our team. This role will be responsible for defining, articulating, building, and championing the future vision of our Insulet products helping simplify the lives of those touched by diabetes. You excel through innovation, creativity, and attention to detail. You sincerely believe that design is more than how something looks, but also how it feels and functions. You value data insights and research findings to drive design decisions. You actively involve and collaborate closely with User researchers, product managers and the tech leads; through which you identify the golden opportunity between user needs, business viability and technical feasibility
This role is for a hands-on UX leader who establishes a UX vision and UX strategy, scales their impact by empowering designers, proactively includes other UX partners such as User Research, Human Factors, Instructional Design, and Content Strategy in the design thinking process and elevates the design quality of the entire team. You will develop strong relationships with fellow UX Leaders and partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Business counterparts throughout the organization to launch bar-raising user experiences for patients, care givers and health care providers around the world. As a creative leader, you have a passion for solving our customers' problems, always putting their needs first.

Responsibilities

  • You will lead product UX design for one of the major areas of our global product suite. You'll facilitate the UX design process, partnering with product management and user research on initial research and product definition, through concepting, crafting detailed designs, prototyping, testing with user research and human factors, and working with the other UX disciplines and engineering on implementation.
  • Define the overall UX design vision for a product, feature or experience working within the scope and customer needs as defined by the product manager. Be accountable for strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core, and new, functions and features.
  • Take a user-centered design approach and rapidly prototype and test with the User Research team and iterate designs. Analyze customer problems and oversee the design of delightful solutions that meet measurable business goals. Work closely with product and business partners to develop a shared vision and lead a process to define and design experiences that deliver on those shared objectives. Ask inquisitive questions, do things differently, and champion innovation and strive for simplicity at the core of Insulet's brand. Partner with technology teams to ensure we leverage the scale offered by our platform without compromising on core experience principles
  • Involved in both working on new, as well as on established products and features, which will allow you to spend time thinking about the bigger picture across products while shipping concrete things to customers and end-users
  • Influence UX design and product through the development of frameworks that help simplify the product user and customer experiences.
  • Partner with other design leaders to improve the quality of your designs and continue your growth as a design leader. Pulling in User Research, Human Factors, Content Strategy, Instructional Design expertise into the innovation conversations. You may act as UX design mentor and guide more junior designers in methods for creating intuitive, engaging product experiences grounded in user needs, working with UX Design Managers. Leading through others is a key aspect of this role.
  • Influence strategic product direction through your deep expertise in UX design, research, and strategy - Communicate design rationale across teams with clarity and influence

Required Leadership/Interpersonal Skills & Behaviors

  • Ability to Present UX design work to partners and executive leadership for review, feedback, and sign-off in clear, concise manner
  • Measure the success and effectiveness of UX innovations.
  • Collaborate with partners, product managers, and development leads to understand detailed requirements and design complete user experiences that meet their needs and vision
  • Extensive experience in using UX design standard methodologies to design solutions, and a deep understanding of mobile-first and adaptable design.
  • Ability to break down big design projects into clear results needed while working in agile sprint teams. To be a lead advocate for design thinking processes, ideas, and solutions clearly and effectively within our production team and with our partners. Be open to receiving and giving feedback to build stronger design practices.
  • Ability to lead UX strategy in a matrixed organization
  • The Principal UX Designer for Insulet will elevate the entire UX team. You will inspire and mentor UX practitioners and partners, leading projects throughout the planning, design, and development cycle. You are expected to think like a strategist, lead as a servant, and always raise the quality of the UX while being a relentless advocate for customers. You will use your organization and positive communication skills to bring clarity to chaos, working strategically with other team leaders and team members across the organization. You love a juicy complex problem to solve!

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Deep expertise in design tools such as Figma, Framer, Sketch, FigJam, Adobe Creative Cloud, JIRA, Confluence, Miro
  • Thoughtful and exquisite online portfolio that shows proven track record of innovation and strategy work within the mobile ecosystem. PLEASE PROVIDE PORTFOLIO LINK AND PASSWORD (IF NEEDED)
  • Ability to think systemically and holistically about product ecosystems and user needs
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive innovation across platforms
  • Deep passion for user-centered design and advocacy for the customer experience, track record of using user research and data for decision making
  • Have an extraordinary aesthetic sense for beautiful designs and pay attention to the details
  • Expert storyteller and influencer
  • Proven track record for providing and effectively communicating strategic and tactical. recommendations based on data to all levels of the organization
  • Preferred qualification: Background in Consumer products design within large ecosystems
  • Preferred qualification: Familiar with Medical Device development processes

Education and Experience

  • BS in Design, Graphic Design, HCI, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in Global Consumer projects from design strategy through execution
  • 10+ years of mobile app and customer experience design experience
  • 5 years working in an Agile environment

Additional Information

  • The position can be remote.
  • Travel is estimated at 10-15% but will flex depending on business need.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $161,100.00 - $242,100.00. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
