eBay's Buyer Experience engineering team is looking for an outstanding Backend Engineer to work on key parts of ebay like the item page, home page, my ebay, global header and growth experiences. You’ll be working with a world class team of engineers, designers, product managers, and analysts to create great products that make a difference on one of the world’s most trafficked and loved websites. Our technology stack includes Node.js front end app and Java based back-end.

The ideal candidate will have strong backend software engineering experience with experience as a full stack engineer as an asset. We are a team that likes to move fast and iterate faster as we deliver the future of e-commerce. We only want to work with the best, and we’d love for you to join us.

Primary Job Responsibilities

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Design, build, and ship features, experiments and products for millions of eBay users.

  • Communicate effectively, within the team and across disciplines. Work closely with product managers and designers to craft compelling user experiences.

  • Contribute meaningfully to our team’s technical and product strategy. We expect all engineers to be active contributors to team success and excellence.

  • Participate in product reviews and team meetings, providing technical insight. Help scope, estimate, and prioritize between conflicting needs.

  • Help foster a healthy engineering culture and collaborate with other engineers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated engineer with a demonstrated ability to get things done

  • Strong communicator that has demonstrated experience working with engineering and cross-functional partners

  • Strong Java programming skills in Java with familiarity with a framework like Spring Boot

  • Experience building and leveraging RESTful API’s, GraphQL

  • Knows how to apply SOLID principles to write high quality, testable, maintainable code

  • An understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years (or) a MS in Computer Science and 5+ years of software design and front-end engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing features for a public facing cloud app at high scale

  • Experience working as a Full Stack engineer with a balance of expertise across modern web technologies and backend service code

  • Expertise in Node.js + any Javascript framework, HTML and CSS3

  • Experience with cross-browser, cross-platform, and design constraints on the web and mobile

  • Experience working on data-driven projects using A/B, multivariate or other performance testing strategies

  • Familiarity with agile software development methodologies such as Scrum
