Core Responsibilities

  • Our team members receive industry-leading wages and are eligible for great benefits packages:

  • Responsible for maintaining all areas of plant refrigeration equipment, boilers (steam and hot water), and compressed air, and ensuring operations are within specified limits.

  • Complete daily assignments based on the daily planner as well as any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Preventative and predictive maintenance along with troubleshooting and repairs of break downs.

  • Gather process safety information for equipment as needed. Review PSM program and associated OSHA regulations.

  • Meet with necessary personnel to discuss previous shift situations or any problems that could affect operations.

  • Complete required daily paper work and turn in to the supervisor.

  • As part of refrigeration team, you will be required to complete 24 hr. training in HAZMAT response.

  • Requisite travel to acquire necessary training and certification as required by Smithfield and OSHA.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • High School Grad or GED required.

  • In order to be considered for refrigeration, the applicant must be able to complete 50% of the Operator 1 training within 30 days.

  • Position is considered temporary until all minimum requirements have been met. If not met, the person will no longer be considered for refrigeration.

  • Good oral and written communication skills are required.

  • Good organizational skills

  • Good understanding of OSHA, EPA, and PSM regulations.

  • Interpret blueprints, shop drawings, sketches and work orders.

  • Maintain routine records.

  • Ammonia refrigeration experience required.

  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and or walking

  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.

  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.

  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.

  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull medium weights, up to and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds.

  • Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases.

  • The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.

  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds utilizing the buddy system or specifically designed lifting devices

  • Specific vision includes close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
