Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a talented Quality Engineer to join our team in Sunnyvale, CA.   The selected candidate will represent the Quality and Mission Excellence department supporting a program or programs in a Program Quality Engineer role, with responsibility for the overall program quality over the lifecycle of the program or subsets of the program. 

Note:  This position requires a primarily on-site presence, however some teleworking flexibility may be possible, subject to employee experience/performance, and subject to program and organizational needs. Flexible work arrangements such as 9/80 and 4/10 are possible options for this role.

Role and Responsibilities:

The Quality Engineer supports a Program or Programs in a Program Quality Engineer role, with responsibility for the overall program quality over the lifecycle of the program. The Program Quality Engineer’s primary responsibilities across this lifecycle include:  

  • Developing and Supporting Program proposal activities,
  • Developing and implementing the Program Quality Plan,
  • Planning/establishing the baseline for the Program quality scope,
  • Support execution of the Program’s procurement, manufacturing, and test plans,
  • Monitoring and control of both supplier and manufacturing performance,
  • Driving and supporting Continuous Improvement (CI) activities on the Program, and
  • Establishing good working relationships with customer and government representatives to facilitate demonstration of conformance to requirements of the finished work products. 

Additionally, the Quality Engineer:

  • Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.
  • Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
  • Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
  • Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
  • Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
  • Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards, and that documentation is compliant with requirements.

Basic Qualifications (Quality Engineer):

  • Bachelor's degree in a related STEM field and 2+ years of experience in a quality assurance, mission assurance, or related engineering role.
  • Must be familiar with standard Visual and Mechanical Inspection techniques and tools.
  • Experience in root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Ability to travel, up to 10%
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance (US Citizenship required).

Preferred Qualifications (Quality Engineer):

  • Experience working in a Program Quality role
  • Experience working within an ISO9001/AS9100 Quality Management System Environment
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and presenting quality metrics and associated trends
  • Experience leading root cause analysis and corrective action activities
  • Familiarity with standard non-destructive testing techniques in a fabrication environment 
  • Familiarity with advanced inspection equipment and techniques used in machining and assembly environments
  • Experience planning and managing projects
  • Experience with Earned Value Management as a Control Account Manager
  • Experience working on DOD contracts and/or on Supplier Quality efforts

Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00Salary Range 2: $97,500.00 - $146,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
