Position Details

The Risk Manager reports to the Chief Legal Officer and is responsible for building, maintaining, and managing an insurance and surety program that cost-effectively address the company’s risks and meets client and jurisdictional requirements. The Risk Manager leads, staffs, manages, and mentors the risk management team, and builds and maintains the systems and processes used to support this work. The Risk Managers serves as a trusted business advisor who is sought out to proactively help the business develop solutions to problems. The Risk Manager also assists the Chief Legal Officer with the procurement and overall management of the corporate insurance program, managing Tilson’s partnership with its insurance broker.

Responsibilities:

Insurance

  • Build, maintain, and manage an insurance program that cost-effectively address the company’s risks and meets client and jurisdictional requirements.

  • Manage insurance renewal process including collection of internal information, organizing meetings, and providing information to brokers and insurers.

  • Ensure timely response to insurance-related requests, including but not limited to COIs, contract reviews, and claims notices.

  • Track and drive to timely, cost-effective resolution all insurance claims in partnership with Tilson’s legal, HR, and operations teams.

  • Manage Tilson’s insurance broker and carrier relationships in conjunction with the Chief Legal Officer, CFO, and Controller.

  • Gather, maintain, analyze, and present data to the company data related to insurance policies, premiums and third party claims, and make recommendations for changes based on this data.

  • Identify and pursue risk mitigation and risk transfer opportunities in close collaboration with the operational teams, business development, legal, insurance, and procurement.

  • In conjunction with finance and estimating teams, develop insurance-related costs and multipliers.

  • Develop and lead internal trainings on insurance and risk-related matters.

  • Stay apprised of insurance industry trends and strategies and advise the company on opportunities to adopt or respond.

Surety

  • Build, maintain, and manage a surety bond program that cost-effectively address the company’s risks and meets client and jurisdictional requirements.

  • Ensure timely response to surety-related requests, including but not limited to permit and license bond requests, contract bond opportunities and surety reference letters.

  • Advise bidding and estimating teams on available capacity, bond structure, and surety expectations.

  • Manage Tilson’s surety and broker relationships in conjunction with the Chief Legal Officer, CFO, and Controller.

  • Track and close completed bonds to maximize available bonding capacity.

  • Stay apprised of surety industry trends and techniques and advise the company on opportunities to adopt or respond.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • 4+ years of experience facilitating certificates of insurance and/or surety bonds

  • 4+ years of experience with claims or equivalent experience

  • CRIS Certification preferred, ARM or RPM designation desirable

  • Knowledge of insurance and surety processes

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook

  • Excellent planning and strong organizational skills

  • Relentless attention to detail

  • Excellent communication skills, patience, and composure

  • Interest and ability to work collaboratively with a high performing team

  • Complete comfort new information system tools, and willingness and ability to adopt new tools and processes

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties

  • Ability to work in a very fast-paced work environment

  • Ability to support peers in an uplifting and collaborative team setting

Tilson leads with integrity around pay transparency; as part of the compensation plan for this position you can expect a pay range of:

$95,000.00 - $135,000.00
