Senior Counsel – Practice Management

Unique opportunity to join McKesson’s General Counsel Organization (GCO) as a senior attorney focusing primarily on McKesson’s oncology and specialty physician practice management businesses, The US Oncology Network (The Network) and Intrafusion by McKesson (Intrafusion). The Network is a collection of more than 45 physician practices with more than 1,400 physicians who care for an estimated 15% of the patients diagnosed with cancer in the United States each year. Intrafusion provides infusion management services to non-oncology specialty medical practices. The Network and Intrafusion practice management businesses are part of the Pharmaceutical Solutions and Services division of McKesson, the company’s largest division.

The successful candidate will become a critical member of a collegial and highly experienced team responsible for managing all legal aspects of these practice management businesses.

Current Need:
The McKesson GCO is seeking an experienced healthcare attorney to join the legal team supporting The US Oncology Network and Intrafusion. This position will report to the Managing Lead Counsel on the legal team supporting The Network. Primary responsibilities for the Network are expected to be supporting the operations teams that are responsible for the day-to-day management of all business aspects of the oncology practices in The Network, the compliance team that helps McKesson and the Network practices maintain compliance with healthcare and other laws, and the data, technology and informatics teams responsible for data governance in The Network. For Intrafusion, this attorney will provide support for contracts and other matters for Intrafusion under the guidance of the Managing Lead Counsel.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides routine day-to-day legal support for the practice management businesses, which can cover a broad range of legal issues arising in a complex healthcare business
  • Provides health care regulatory advice (AKS, Stark Law, FCA, CMS and state rules and regulations) related to arrangements with physician practices
  • Works collaboratively with the operations teams on their efforts to grow The Network and Intrafusion and improve the performance of the practices in The Network and Intrafusion
  • Works collaboratively with the information and technology teams of the Network and Intrafusion to enhance data governance and the ability of the practice management businesses to capture, analyze and use data to improve their businesses and the success of their customers
  • Drafts, reviews and negotiates agreements for the practice management businesses
  • Coordinates with other attorneys, legal specialists and compliance professionals in the McKesson GCO supporting The Network
  • Coordinates with other attorneys in the McKesson General Counsel Organization on litigation, labor and employment, IP and other matters arising in The Network and Intrafusion business units
  • Frequent interactions with other internal stakeholders across functional groups, including Risk Management

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Requirements 7+ years of relevant legal experience in a corporate legal department or law firm providing legal counsel to health care provider clients
  • Familiarity with fraud and abuse and other healthcare laws, transactions, and contract negotiations

Critical Skills:

  • Must be a team player who can develop strong working relationships and work collaboratively with many business leaders from multiple functions and with other members of the legal team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to provide sound, clear legal advice and to earn the trust and confidence of the business
  • Excellent transaction and commercial contract drafting and negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of payer, regulatory, compliance, privacy and licensure issues at the federal and state level relative to physician practices
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Strong business acumen dealing with high-stakes negotiations, risk analysis and organizational priorities
  • Flexibility and willingness to work on a broad variety of legal matters
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects in an efficient and timely manner
  • Proactive problem-solving approach

Education:

  • Juris Doctor Degree with excellent academic credentials
  • Member of a state bar in good standing

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$134,500 - $224,100
