Founded in 2019, Transmutex aims to reinvent nuclear energy/medicine/waste recycling by using an accelerator-driven system (ADS) to optimize the transmutation of long-lived nuclear waste. The innovative combination of particle accelerators and Thorium fuel based on existing long-lived radioactive waste allows to generate energy intrinsically safe and recycle the stockpile of long-lived waste in a proliferation-resistant way.
We are seeking an adaptable and skilled nuclear engineer, preferably with a mechanical engineering background to contribute to the design and development of the core design, particularly the existing and proposed designs of the fuel pellet and the fuel rod of our advance nuclear reactor system. This role will involve working with fuel performance codes, performing safety analysis, and providing recommendations for operational advice concerning the performance of nuclear fuel in an accelerator-driven system.
Key Responsibilities
- Adapt and utilize fuel performancemodelling codes for the reactor system.
- Conduct fuel performance studies, such as pellet clad mechanical interactions.
- Analyze fuel behavior during normal and abnormal conditions.
- Develop, maintain, and validate the fuel performance assessment methodologies and modelling codes.
- Perform fuel rod mechanical analysis adhering to relevant ASME standards.
- Engage with internal (fuel, safety, and software) and external collaborators for design optimization.
- Provide design improvements evaluating material compatibility with lead coolant and radiation effects.
- Provide advice and judgement on the appropriate operational performance of the nuclear fuel during all plant states
Requirements
The candidates we are looking for must have:
- minimum Bachelor degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related field
- Good foundation in finite element methods (FEM), numerical integration, and multi-physics coupling.
- Demonstrated experience in fuel performance and dynamic structural analysis.
- Knowledge of ASME standards for nuclear-grade components.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to continuously learn and adapt to project needs.
Additionally, it will be an advantage if you have:
- Hands-on experience with fuel performance codes such as TRANSURANUS, BISON, or FRAPCON/FRAPTRAN.
- Skilled with non-linear analysis techniques, including material plasticity, large deformation, and contact mechanics.
- Proficiency in French, German or Italian
