Position Summary

Associate Legal Counsel for the Caremark Healthcare Services business is responsible for all legal matters related to the assigned PBM client contracting healthcare service assets, will act as subject matter expert and provide timely, practical and actionable legal advice enabling the business to grow the organization and reach our long-term strategic goals.


This role requires the highest degree of integrity and ability to engage and influence senior leaders within the organization. The individual should be a strong communicator with the ability to build enduring trusting relationships and possess an understanding of how to accomplish objectives both directly and through influence in other areas of the business.

    • Advising internal business clients with respect to the application of federal and state laws and regulations to the business activities of CVS Caremark.

    • Undertaking legal research and providing legal expertise on health care programs and services and company-wide initiatives.

    • Providing daily risk-management support for assigned businesses.

    • Work collaboratively with Client Account Management, Proposals, Finance, Compliance, Government Affairs, Privacy and other operational stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulation in connection with a variety of projects and initiatives.

    • Identify legal and business risks and provide solutions to internal business partners that balance legal risks and business objectives and take an active role in driving projects to a final result.

    • Manage outside counsel and support internal stakeholders to protect company assets, mitigate risk, and optimize operational performance.

    • Supporting review of product portfolios and marketing materials and member/customer/provider communications pertaining to assigned areas.

    • Support the drafting, review and negotiation of contracts for a wide variety of engagements.


    Required Qualifications

    • 3+ years of legal experience focused on complex commercial contract negotiation and interpretation. 

    • 3+ years of health care law, finance, compliance, and/or regulatory affairs experience

    • Ability to travel up to 10%

    • Bar admission in good standing

    Education

    Juris Doctor

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Law firm experience with some in-house and/or government experience preferred.

    • Expertise in health care law, with a preference for familiarity with issues relevant to pharmacy, benefit plans and governmental agency contracting.

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate concisely.

    • Excellent ability to issue and integrate legal advice with business goals.  Must be able to understand and creatively support business objectives.

    • The ability to work collaboratively in a large, complex corporate structure.

    • Initiative, drive and self-confidence.

    • Inspiring leader and coach with a track record of building and aligning great teams.

    • Ability to develop a deep understanding of the business and operational goals of assigned internal clients and work to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients at all levels of the organization.

    • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage many projects -- whether large or small, complex or simple -- simultaneously.


     

    Pay Range

    The typical pay range for this role is:

    $118,450.00 - $260,590.00


    This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
