The Opportunity

AgeCare is seeking an experienced Director, Payroll to join our Finance leadership team. Reporting to the Vice President, Finance, this role is accountable for the strategic oversight of third-party payroll operations, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining full compliance with all applicable federal and provincial payroll legislation. This is a high-impact role that blends leadership, compliance, process improvement, and stakeholder collaboration.

What You’ll Do

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all relevant federal and provincial payroll legislation, tax regulations, and labor standards.

  • Partner with third-party payroll service providers to prepare, review, and submit payroll tax filings, statutory remittances, and government reporting requirements.

  • Oversee monthly payroll reconciliations and ensure accurate and timely posting to the general ledger.

  • Support reconciliation and administration of pension plans, RRSP programs, and group benefits.

  • Continuously evaluate and enhance payroll processes to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.

  • Collaborate with site administration, HR team, third-party payroll providers, and HCM system partners to implement automation, system enhancements, and best practices across payroll operations.

  • Provide leadership and guidance to internal payroll teams and external payroll service partners to deliver a high standard of payroll service.

  • Ensure prompt, professional resolution of payroll-related inquiries and issues for employees and key stakeholders.

  • Ensure payroll records, documentation, and reports are maintained securely and confidentially.

  • Implement and monitor record retention practices in compliance with federal and provincial regulatory requirements.

  • Assess team capacity, capabilities, and resourcing to support payroll objectives.

  • Lead and contribute to special projects and other ad hoc initiatives as assigned.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma from a post-secondary institution

  • Canadian Payroll Manager (CPM) certification or equivalent experience

  • 10+ years of hands-on full cycle multi-site or Canadian multi-jurisdictional payroll processing and reconciliation experience.

  • Broad payroll experience for a large, multi-union complex organization preferred.

  • Experience with Workday, UKG, or other computerized payroll, HCM, or scheduling systems.
