PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The sustainability manager supports operational level environmental improvements and reports to the sustainability director inside of the Care Delivery operations organization. This multifaceted role helps position FME as a leader in environmental sustainability with the goal of upholding healthcare environmental standards and best practices. A key responsibility is collaborating on sustainability efforts across various business and functional groups to ensure successful implementation. The manager supports the development, implementation, promotion, and monitoring of environmental strategies and goals across the sites where FME delivers care to patients in the US. The manager coordinates the organization in deploying environmental sustainability actions that lead to improved conservation efforts, reduction of impact on the environment, and promote long-term sustainability. The manager acts in accordance with policies and procedures and exemplifies the mission, vision, and values of FME.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform a baseline assessment for analyzing the organization’s current practices and identify opportunities for improvement
Support the development of an environmental sustainability strategic plan to incorporate environmental sustainability into the operations of Care Delivery
Collaborate with appropriate departments to carry out the approved strategy and prioritized workstreams
Maintain relationships with external organizations and stakeholders to ensure the operations are current to industry norms
Identify an appropriate mechanism for establishing a baseline and collecting data to ensure progress on operational aspects of conservation and recycling.
Establish, set targets for, and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify progress on important sustainability metrics
Develop updates and/or briefings to share with appropriate departments to communicate the organization’s environmental sustainability strategy, initiatives, progress, and achievements. Collect input and apply to planning/improvements.
Develop procedures for areas including materials and waste, safer chemicals, environmentally preferable purchasing, transportation, etc.
Develop project/committee and work group structures to support continuous environmental quality improvement

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree, preferably an advanced degree in sustainability, environmental sciences, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
Minimum of three years of healthcare sustainability experience
Broad knowledge and appreciation of the key aspects of sustainable development, with a particular emphasis on life sciences and the associated business impacts
Is reflective and able to propose solutions that can solve complex problems
Ability to plan and prioritize deadlines
Experience in the application of sustainability standards and reporting protocols, including but not limited to U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, CSRD, and others
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate sustainability initiatives and needs to both leadership and front-line staff
Proven ability to engage with people at all levels across the organization
Strong project management skills with an open, constructive, and collaborative approach to working with colleagues
Experience in change management and continuous quality improvement
