Registered Nurse (RN) Nightingale – Float Pool

The purpose of this position is to harness the skills of an experienced RN Hospital who recently retired but has a desire to leverage their extensive knowledge, while supporting the nursing care team by alleviating administrative task-based responsibilities to enhance patient care delivery. The RN will provide direct nursing care in accordance with established healthcare organization policies, procedures, and protocol in numerous units, departments and/or locations. 


A caregiver in this position works varying shifts from 11:00am – 7:30pm.  


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide direct nursing care. 

  • Provide coaching, teaching, and educational material as appropriate. 

  • Assess and coordinate patients’ admission planning, discharge planning and educational needs. 

  • Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.  

  • Evaluate, update and revise plans of care.  

  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.  


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.  

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).  

  • Three years of experience in an RN Hospital position at the Cleveland Clinic immediately prior to retirement. 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). 


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for periods of  time.
  • Ability to sit at a computerized workstation for extended periods.
  • May require full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
  • Medium Work – May include exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
