ROLE SUMMARY 

Reporting to the Pipeline Strategic Planning team lead, this individual is a key contributor to cross-category strategic initiatives and white space opportunity assessments, as well as emerging R&D platforms. This position within the Pipeline Strategic Planning team represents Pfizer from a holistic commercial pipeline planning perspective to provide insight and input into drug development and business development processes as we strive to deliver breakthroughs to patients. This includes representing Commercial Strategy and Innovation (CSI) interests related to key cross-functional initiatives. This individual partners with cross-functional leaders spanning R&D, Business Development, Regulatory, Global Access and Value, Medical, and Commercial, as appropriate. 

This individual is responsible for leading cross-category strategic initiatives and white space opportunity assessment workstreams and will play an active role in refining and advancing Pfizer's enterprise portfolio strategy both within CSI and with cross-functional partners.  

 

This individual is dynamic, experienced and has a strong track record of strategy, commercial development, business development, market analysis, data management, commercial opportunity assessments, and influencing across a variety of settings and topics in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry. The individual must have a proven ability to effectively manage complex and ambiguous projects, influence stakeholders without authority, effectively network across the organization, and communicate with senior leaders all within a fast-moving, challenging and dynamic environment. 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES 

Specific responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following: 

  • Lead workstreams associated with enterprise-wide category strategy and related projects 

  • Consolidate and implement Commercial Development best practices and lessons learned 

  • Define and apply consistent Commercial Development standards across product lifecycle and BD assessments 

  • Evaluate and assess TA’s / R&D white space opportunities (e.g., those without clear TA alignment) 

  • Lead systematic synchronization with R&D, Business Development, Ventures, and Ignite 

  • Provide commercial input into Digital Health, Medicine, & AI work 

  • Regularly assess potential adjacencies (e.g., digital companions, digital therapeutics) 

  • Deliver Commercial Development leadership support 

  • Forge strong working relationships with cross-functional leadership 

  • Support assessment, evaluation, and integration of Business Development deals 

  • Lead by example, respecting Pfizer core values 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • BS/BA with 10 years of experience, MS/MBA with 9 years of experience or PhD/JD with 7 years of experience working in the biopharmaceutical industry in strategy, business development, commercial development or marketing and sales roles with increasing responsibilities, complexity and accountabilities; experience working in global markets such the European Union, Japan or other major markets is highly desirable  

  • Demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including the ability to influence and collaborate with peers 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Integrative decision-making considering alternatives and trade-offs based on logical assumptions, available resources, constraints and organizational values 

  • Strong strategic thinking using knowledge of economic, financial, market and industry trends to contribute to effective business strategies and tactics 

  • Technical expertise in end-to-end lifecycle management of a brand, launch planning and execution, and disease area assessment; support of R&D through the drug development process; and evaluation of business development and pipeline opportunities 

  • Expertise in the field of biopharmaceuticals with a solid understanding of diseases, epidemiology, humanistic and cultural dynamics in the field, and the underlying science underpinning the various approaches toward treatment and prevention of disease 

  • Effectively communicates with and influences others and seen as a thought partner in the organization and is able to use effective persuasion to gain acceptance of ideas
     

  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $161,600.00 to $269,400.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
