Job Description:

Blizzard Entertainment is seeking an enthusiastic driven Associate Software Engineer to join the World of Warcraft server team. The ideal applicant is someone who hungers to understand the workings and infrastructure of a massive online gaming environment. The individual must also enjoy the challenge of
implementing new game systems for players to experience, while diagnosing tough problems and keeping the server code maintainable and optimized.

While working with the World of Warcraft team, you’ll collaborate across subject areas with other specialists to understand and tackle problems related to WoW’s backend game services. You’ll help push our technology forward and ensure our large-scale distributed systems continue to be resilient.

This role is expected to be a hybrid role with 3 days work onsite and 2 days remote. The home studio for this position is Irvine, CA.

What you’ll do...
Learn from mentors on how to design, implement, and maintain World of Warcraft backend services and systems
Work cross-team and support backend game service requests
Assist in designing systems with scalability, availability, and performance in mind
Troubleshoot issues, resolve defects, and improve the live service
Implement instrumentation and testing strategies to ensure correct functionality of features
Participate in and contribute to a culture of inclusion and diversity

To succeed, you have...
Experience working with Object-oriented Programming
Prior client-server application development
Passion for implementing sophisticated coding solutions with simple, elegant, easy-to- maintain code
Eagerness to learn and willingness to work in unfamiliar code repositories
Ability to work well and collaborate with both other programmers and non-
programming team members

We’re also interested in hearing about...
Experience working with C++
Previous engineering experience in game development
Understanding and experience working with distributed systems
Experience using a major public cloud platform such as AWS or GCP
Experience with multithreading and networking
Experience with test instrumentation and test harnesses
Experience with implementing a multiplayer gameplay feature
Experience with code optimization and developing test strategies
Broad Experience in any of the following: Linux, Oracle, SQL, Lua, Jenkins

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $30.05 - $55.59 Hourly. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
