Job Description

The Strategic Procurement & Planning Division (SPPD) team is looking for a Senior Data Specialist.  This position can be located in Beijing, China or Xuzhou, China.  As a Business Senior Data Specialists at Caterpillar, you will support the management of several core US based tools and systems from the business side.  These are the tools that are needed for Caterpillar employees to be successful in their roles as they help to build a better world.  You ensure we have the right business requirements through data collection, collaboration with suppliers and data analytics ultimately driving stronger impactful decisions. 

This role serves as a senior data specialist responsible for designing, building, testing and providing ongoing support of Enterprise Procurement Data Platform (EPDP) and the Supply Chain Data Platform (SCDP), which serves as the foundation for Enterprise Procurement and Supply chain initiatives.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

* Coordinate with Procurement, Engineering, Information Technology, and external vendors to ensure successful delivery and business value of Foundational Item Data

* Align with the Enterprise Item Master (EIM) project team to maximize coverage and availability

* Work closely with key stakeholders throughout the procurement organization to understand data requirements and deliver accordingly

* Coordinate with Process/Product owners across dependent Procurement Modules including Buyer Assignment, Sourcing, Intelligent Category Management, Projects, and future modules

* Provide testing leadership to ensure value through SIT, UAT, and E2E testing in conjunction with Internal and External testing teams

* Drive Data Governance principles across aligned teams and help to realize the Enterprise Data Strategy

* Support the management of data and business process improvement of the Enterprise Procurement Data Platform (EPDP) and Supply Chain Data Platform (SCDP)

* Identifies, documents, and reports design, reliability and maintenance problems and bugs. Gathers and consolidates feedback from customers and field staff.

*  Create and maintain effective data governance policies to ensure the quality and security of data used across the business

*  Develop, implement and support of digital capabilities that are part of Strategic Procurement & Planning Division accountabilities

*  Collaborate effectively with colleagues, customers, and suppliers at all levels

*  Demonstrate your advanced project management skills required to collect, compile, assimilate, communicate, and maintain information across multiple projects

*  Assess and recommend solutions related to procurement and supply chain processes

* Perform analytical and administrative tasks in support of Strategic Procurement Division initiatives

*  Act as leader or SME, depending on project, to develop new systems and tools and retire outdated systems and tools as part of strategic roadmap

Basic Requirements:  

*  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in or related to Advanced Analytics, computer science, data analytics, engineering, finance, business administration, or statistics

* 5+ years of Caterpillar Part/Item/Material Life Cycle management within Procurement, Engineering, Supply Chain, or other relevant disciplines

* Ability to lead requirement gathering and analysis, coordinating with multiple disparate teams,

* Fundamental understanding of relational databases and design

* Desire to expand fundamental technical tasks of data retrieval, analysis, and reporting

Top Candidates will also have:

*  Familiarity with basic procurement and supply chain principles, procedures, and techniques

*  Experience and expertise in the following systems: Spend Data Warehouse (SDW), Corporate Logistics Data Base (CLIDB), Quality Data Warehouse (QNET), Supply Chain Data Warehouse (SCDW), Assurance of Supply (ASC), Material Replenishment Collaboration (MRC), Network Planning and Execution (NPE), LOGNET, Enterprise Digital Order Fulfillment (EDOF) Tableau, Demand Visibility Tool (DVT), EPIX, Production Stores Inventory (PSI)

*  Familiarity in data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI

*  Programming experience in Python, R, SAS, or SQL, Snow SQL

*  Experience with data modeling principles/methods including conceptual, logical, and physical data models including Data Vault modeling

*  Experience with Data mapping, integration, and transformation to a data warehouse

* Demonstrated effective oral and written communications skills as well as strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative work style

* Demonstrated ability to prioritize work in a dynamic environment

* Demonstrated ability to dig into details and synthesize ideas and solutions

Agile Development: Knowledge of agile methodologies and the agile development lifecycle; ability to utilize formal agile methodologies, disciplines, practices and techniques for the delivery of new and enhanced applications.

•    Utilizes database design tools and techniques.
•    Tests the effectiveness of the database before its release for business use.

ETL Process: Knowledge of the extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) process; ability to develop a database through the ETL process.
 Level Working Knowledge: 
•    Ensures the accuracy and effectiveness of data provided for the warehouse.
•    Loads selected data into the warehouse on a regular basis.
•    Derives necessary business or technical information from original data.
•    Acquires a large amount of data from different sources/systems.
•    Solves technical and administrative problems during the ETL process.

Modeling: Data, Process, Events, Objects: Knowledge of data, process and events; ability to use tools and techniques for analyzing and documenting logical relationships among data, processes or events.
 Level Working Knowledge: 
•    Defines common types of data, processes or event models.
•    Participates in model reviews and walkthroughs.
•    Explains existing models to clients and describes their associated business processes.
•    Focuses on modifying Data Structure, Access and Entity Relationship Diagrams.
•    Prepares reports to recap current findings and issues in data, processes or event models.
