Head of Primary AL/GL Claims

The Head of Primary AL/GL Claims will report to the Head of Liability Claims for North America. The role will be responsible for driving claims consistency with respect to primary Auto and General Liability Claims, developing best practices, providing technical claims oversight with an emphasis on driving outcomes on the most severe losses, partnering with Underwriting on claims trends, and working with Actuarial on assessing complex, multi-line exposures. The incumbent will use their expertise to enhance the client experience, resolve claim issues for clients, and provide support to underwriting and distribution to drive and retain business. 

How you will create an impact:

  • Strategic leadership of the Primary AL/GL teams in North America, ensuring the appropriateness of claims payments, adequate and timely reserving, and reduction of claim costs;
  • Responsible for ensuring the understanding and administration of claim policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with company policy and standards for all technical claims teams within North America, resulting in appropriate handling of claim file reserving, claims payments, legal and allocated expenses, and recoveries;
  • Develop, position, market, and deliver superior claims services and capabilities in a manner that effectively leverages AIG’s strengths as a competitive differential in the marketplace;
  • Use expertise to enhance the client experience, resolve claim issues for clients, and provide support to underwriting and distribution to drive and retain business;
  • Drive strategic support and value by managing the cost of claims through improved claims handling processes, data usage, innovation, and technology solutions. Accountable for all KPIs, metrics, and review processes;
  • Establish an effective litigation strategy in partnership with General Counsel;
  • Establish strong and collaborative relationships with the GI Claims leadership team and the Underwriting and Distribution Leadership teams; create mutual understanding of overall parameters and goals to drive effective execution of business model; provide excellent customer focus that understands and meets client’s needs;
  • Build and maintain strong and effective relationships with key external business partners across Casualty to ensure that service delivery meets appropriate standards and expectations; Represent AIG as the Claims lead for Liability Claims with brokers and clients during the claim issue resolution process
  • Responsible for reporting on claims intelligence and analytics and sharing relevant insights with the Casualty Claims leadership teams. Report back to the GI Claims Leadership Team on large losses and coverage disputes.
  • Apprise Claims and Underwriting leadership teams of changes and trends in the legal, regulatory, and claims environment; evaluate any impact to AIG.
  • Partner with Underwriting, Actuarial, Marketing, and Shared Services stakeholders on relevant projects, quarterly and annual profitability, and reserving reviews.
  • Develop tools and strategies, in collaboration with HR, to attract and retain top industry talent and develop high performing teams. 
  • Drive a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity and inclusion.

What you'll need to succeed:

The candidate should demonstrate a passion for breaking new ground to lead change.  The successful candidate will possess proven experience in scaling a multi-channel complex organization and a demonstrated ability to both lead and build the capabilities of a driven, bright, diverse team.  In addition, she/he will have a proven track record as an exceptionally effective change agent.  The candidate will possess a strong business and process mindset and change leadership skills to unify teams around common goals and drive change.

Additional requirements include:

  • 10 years claims leadership experience, including oversight of multiple products and geographies.
  • Strong commercial mindset with a proven track record of making sound judgments backed by strong analytical skills and business acumen;
  • Demonstrated technical claims expert with strong analytical and quantitative skills.
  • Self-directed with ability to manage and motivate others. Proven ability of building high performing teams;
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement strategy, manage vision and purpose, and develop organizational capability resulting in achievement of results;
  • Skilled leader of change; versatile, client focused, results oriented. Experience of driving transformation with successful outcomes and effective change management.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills;
  • Use of analytics, data, science, and technology to advance ways of working.

For positions based in Jersey City, NJ, the base salary range is $200,000-$255,000 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
