Job Summary:

The Legal Senior Manager will play a key role in providing strategic legal advice, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, managing risk, and supporting business objectives across Johnson Controls-Hitachi’s operations in China and the Asia-Pacific region.

This role requires a proactive, business-savvy legal professional with experience in corporate law, commercial contracts, compliance, and regulatory matters.

Key Responsibilities:

Legal Advisory & Risk Management

  • Provide strategic legal counsel to senior management and business units.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies aligned with business goals.

Contract Management

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including supplier, distributor, joint venture, and licensing contracts.
  • Ensure contracts comply with internal policies and local laws.

Compliance & Regulatory Affairs

  • Ensure compliance with local and international laws, including anti-corruption, competition, and data privacy regulations.
  • Lead initiatives for corporate governance and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct training sessions on compliance matters for employees and stakeholders.

Dispute Resolution & Litigation

  • Manage disputes, litigation, and arbitration cases.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel to resolve legal matters efficiently and cost-effectively.

Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)

  • Support due diligence, structuring, and negotiation of M&A transactions.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and mentor a team of legal professionals (if applicable).
  • Foster a culture of excellence, integrity, and collaboration within the legal team.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law (LLB/LLM) from a reputable institution. Bar admission in China is mandatory.
  • Experience: At least 10 years of legal experience, with a preference for experience in multinational corporations or law firms. Exposure to the HVAC or manufacturing industry is a plus.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of Chinese corporate law, contract law, and regulatory frameworks.
    • Excellent negotiation, drafting, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal solutions.
    • Fluency in English and Mandarin (both written and spoken).
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
