The Company’s lead product candidate, bexotegrast (PLN-74809), is an oral small molecule, selective inhibitor of the αvβ1 and αvβ6 integrins that play a key role in multiple fibrotic pathways. Bexotegrast has received Fast Track Designation and Orphan Drug Designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for both idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and Orphan Drug Designation from the European Medicines Agency in IPF and PSC. Pliant is currently conducting BEACON-IPF, a Phase 2b/3 trial of bexotegrast for the treatment of IPF. 

Pliant is conducting a Phase 1 study for its third clinical program, PLN-101095, a small molecule, dual-selective inhibitor of αvß8 and αvß1 integrins, that is being developed for the treatment of solid tumors. The Company also has discovery and development programs in oncology and muscular dystrophies.

Description

This position will have both Accounting and FP&A responsibilities. The position will be managing and overseeing the daily operations for all collaboration accounting and reporting to include revenue, as well as working cross-functionally with auditors, Business Development and Program Management. While also working as part of the FP&A team on quarterly internal reporting and supporting the G&A teams. This will include the ownership of the forecasting system, Adaptive.

This is a hybrid position, requiring 3 days/week at Pliant (South San Francisco).

Responsibilities

  • Perform close activities related to license and collaboration agreements, provide support on required SEC disclosures.
  • Contribute to the month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting close processes, helping ensure completion in a timely and accurate manner including flux explanations for changes from period to period.
  • Participate and support the maintenance of Sarbanes-Oxley internal control requirements.
  • Support internal and external audit requirements related to collaborations and other assigned areas.
  • Maintain and update corporate accounting policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Prepare financial reports to reflect quarterly performance as well as reports for all forecast cycles.
  • Meet with and review financial performance against the annual budget and current forecast for assigned departments.
  • Review new contracts for proper coding and whether they fall within the current budget guidelines for assigned departments.
  • Assist business partners with managing their open purchase orders, ensuring adequacy of remaining funds and validating need based on forecasted operations.
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, abilities and prior experience required.

  • Bachelor's degree and/or Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years relevant professional experience is required (pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry preferred)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent designation is preferred; CPA candidate will be considered
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and SEC Reporting
  • Communicates technical information clearly to a non-technical audience, both verbally and in writing; readily grasps the main points in communications from others.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational & project management skills
  • Highly collaborative with a strong sense of ownership/accountability
  • Extensive knowledge and use of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with NetSuite and Adaptive Planning preferred

Pliant requires all new hires to be fully vaccinated prior to the first date of employment (subject to any legally required exemptions).

The annual salary for this role is $125K - $135K. Individual pay may vary based on additional factors, including, and without limitation job-related skills, experience, work location and relevant education or training. Pliant’s compensation package also includes benefits, equity, and annual target bonus for fulltime positions.
