JOB SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant supports business license and tax processes for the company with primary responsibility for business licensing compliance, monitoring and accounting for operating and finance leases, various tax preparation/filing, journal entry preparation, and financial reporting. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for assuring the company is compliant with all state and local regulations relating to business licenses and permits including original applications, renewals, and research for new locations. Additional responsibilities include tracking and filing various types of tax returns and payments and managing and maintaining lease accounting database. Opportunities to expand into other tax, accounting, and compliance functions as time permits.

Compensation:
Towne Park is committed to offering competitive, fair, and commensurate compensation. Actual compensation will be based on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, education or training, and location. The annual base pay range for this position is $60,000.00- $65,000.00.
 

Benefits: Employees are eligible to enroll in medical, dental, and vision insurance, accident insurance, critical illness insurance, hospital indemnity insurance, and telemedicine benefits. Employees are provided company-paid basic life and AD&D insurance as well as short-term and long-term disability. Employees are also able to enroll in the company’s 401k retirement savings plan.

Paid Time Off: Employees accrue 0.0385 hours of PTO per hour worked up to a maximum of 80 hours per calendar year. Employees receive 6 paid holidays throughout the calendar year and employees accrue up to a maximum of 4 paid floating holidays per calendar year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform all functions.

  • Manage the business license filing process including preparation and submission of initial applications and renewals, coordination with risk management, legal, and operations team to obtain the necessary information and documentation and arranging payments where necessary.  Also includes coordinating with operations teams to ensure compliance while providing services to clients.   
  • Refine research and documentation processes to ascertain the company is compliant with all state and local laws and regulations regarding licensing, permitting, and taxation.  Includes discussions and coordination with governmental authorities and external license management company (Avalara License Management) on a regular basis. 
  • Support accounting team with operating and finance leases, including but not limited to ensuring compliance with ASC 842 and other relevant standards. Tracking lease-related transactions, maintaining and develop lease documentation (such as lease agreements and addendums, amortization schedules, etc.) and ensure payments are made to vendors timely and accurately.  
  • Prepare month-end and mid-month journal entries for various accounts in accordance with GAAP and company policies and procedures.
  • Assist in managing a 3rd party provider for license and permit applications.
  • Ad hoc accounting projects on an as needed basis and assist with the annual financial statement audit.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting OR Bachelor’s degree in related field

Work Experience:

  • Some level of Operational Accounting and/or office experience
  • One (1) year of permitting and/or licensing experience preferred but not required.
  • One (1) year of account reconciliation and general ledger accounting experience preferred but not required.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP) and the ability to apply general accounting theory to day to day processes

Skills:

  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and various accounting technology applications
  • Written and verbal communication skills to effectively address all levels within the organization
  • Ability to represent the company effectively in a variety of settings with a demonstrated understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business policies, procedures, equipment manuals, training materials, and corporate communications
  • Ability to compose professional internal and external business communications including reports, memos, letters, and e-mails
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment adhering to strict deadlines

Authority to Act:

The job is fairly routine. Incumbent follows established practices and procedures. Duties are performed with specific directions given and work is checked or verified on a frequent basis. Decisions are made within specific operational instructions and departmental guidelines. Errors in judgment could affect the smooth and efficient operation of the department.
