Overview:

The Sr. CCAR Manager manages and provides strategic direction to a team of analysts and managers who are responsible for developing scenarios, consolidating and reviewing all risk and resource estimates in order to produce capital forecasts, and preparing presentations, memorandums, and regulatory forms as part of the bi-annual stress tests (i.e., Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR) and mid-cycle Dodd-Frank Act Stress Test (DFAST)).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage and develop a team of analysts and managers that play a critical role in the completion of bi-annual stress tests.
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to assigned team while working collaboratively with other Sr. CCAR Managers to ensure consistency throughout the department.
  • Deliver presentations to senior and executive management of the organization on a regular basis concerning the business activities of the department.
  • Review and challenge model inputs and outcomes to ensure accuracy of results and compare to anticipated projections.
  • Manage the completion of assigned projects from start to finish, ensuring no aspect is neglected.
  • Oversee the development of M&T’s public disclosures related to stress test results.
  • Develop strong partnerships with business managers to gain an understanding of underlying business drivers and issues that may affect scenario development and capital forecasting; Work in collaboration with businesses (e.g., Credit Risk, Treasury and Finance) to provide insightful review and analysis of risks and resource estimates.
  • Provide direction for research and analyses of industry and peer bank data; keep appraised of regulatory developments affecting the bi-annual stress tests requirements and best practices.
  • Maintain strong internal control framework, including the documentation of processes and controls in procedures; ensure procedures and policies are properly maintained.
  • Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

The CCAR Team plays a critical role in conducting the bi-annual stress tests for M&T.  The stress tests were developed by the Federal Reserve to assess the capital adequacy of financial institutions, under different economic stress scenarios. Loss estimates from credit, market, interest rate, operations, reputational and other identified risks are determined based on the Bank's existing portfolio and new originations over the forecast horizon, using a combination of quantitative models and expert judgment. The loss estimates are matched against capital sources and the required capital adequacy measures are evaluated for estimated losses under different economic scenarios. The Sr. CCAR Manager may be tasked to focus on scenario development or forecasting, but the incumbent must have an understanding all components of the stress tests.

The Sr. CCAR Manager works under minimal supervision and is required to exercise independent judgment and discretion.  This position has substantial contact with the internal departments within the Bank, including middle, senior and executive level management.

Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:

Manage a team of 5+ analysts and managers with 1 – 2 direct reports.

Education and Experience Required: 

Bachelor’s degree in quantitative/analytical discipline (e.g., Finance, Accounting or Economics) and minimum of ten years’ experience including a minimum of five years' experience in the finance industry, OR in lieu of degree, a combined fourteen years' work experience and/or higher education with a minimum of five years' experience in the finance industry.

Demonstrated expertise in area of responsibility.

Strong knowledge of financial principles and regulatory and compliance agencies/issues related to the banking industry.

Strong oral and written presentation skills with ability to deliver presentations with poignancy to the highest levels of management.

Education and Experience Preferred:

MBA or advanced degree preferred.

Previous exposure to capital forecasting and/or regulatory capital reporting.

Previous experience with CCAR/DFAST and regulatory reporting templates.

Advanced financial modeling skills.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $136,787.30 - $227,978.83 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
