Job Profile Summary:

Broadly, this position resides within the First Line of Defense as a component of a larger control monitoring body within the Commercial Credit division, providing operational support to first line business partners. More specifically, it exists within the Regulatory Operational & Controls Monitoring (ROCM) team. As a member of the ROCM team, this role entails core elements of the ROCM operation which includes tracking, control monitoring, reporting, and escalation of multifaceted operational, business risk, and regulatory compliance functions within Credit Administration and across the larger Commercial Credit division. As such, this position may incur critical and highly visible ownership of regulatory business compliance and internal processes, the mitigation of internal and external risk factors, and investigative analysis. This position may also involve oversight and quality control review of peer responsibilities. The ideal candidate possesses outstanding verbal and written communication skills, leadership attributes, an analytical mindset, a willingness to collaborate, critical thinking/reasoning abilities, and is a successful problem-solver.

Overview:

Monitor, track, report, and escalate as required the Commercial division’s adherence to critical federal, state, and prudential regulations (i.e. FRB Reg B, FDIC, CFPB, CCPA, HCA, FTC-FCRA, CRA MWOB et al.) as well as internal compliance with Credit Policy and procedures. Proactively communicate and partner with the Commercial bank lines of business on outstanding items ensuring a resolution plan. Assist in the development and implementation of various operational risk/compliance related initiatives within the business unit. Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) of various regulations and the process and control points that accompany them.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Proactively monitor and follow up on regulation application completeness and Decision close to ensure compliance.
  • Communicate with Loan teams on outstanding items to understand issues or challenges.
  • Lead meetings with Lines of business to discuss loans not within compliance.
  • Monitor the completeness and timeliness of specific regulatory forms.
  • Partner with Lines of business on outstanding regulatory forms and ensure system data accuracy
  • Monitor and fully understand reporting needed to follow up on outstanding items, with the ability to identify themes and trends
  • Develop tracking mechanisms for unresolved items
  • Interact, lead, and/or support any internal reviews, audits, testing, and/or reviews by First Line (Commercial Risk), Second Line (Compliance Risk Management), and Third Line of Defense (Internal Audit) functions
  • Participation and contribution to control point dialogue (various audiences)
  • External regulatory event planning, coordination, and execution
  • Process mapping and procedure generation
  • Research and assess regulatory requirements impacting the business unit.
  • Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.

  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Education, Skills, and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 6 years' higher

education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 2 years' relevant work experience

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $60,890.34 - $101,483.90 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
