SUMMARY

The Systems Accountant I position requires skills and knowledge in both accounting and accounting systems (software). Particularly, this position requires an individual who is reliable, has MS Excel and other MS apps expertise, has MS Access/relational database experience, is a fast-learner, is well-equipped to perform in a fast-paced environment, and is an excellent communicator with both our internal team, and the client. Knowledge of federal financial management, accounting and related systems preferred.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

CPA/CGFM candidate preferred.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Retrieves and cleanses data from multiple applications/sources, using Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System (CORE data) and SAP tool for Financial Management Modernization Initiative (FMMI data).

Links data to MS Access Financial Reporting and Analysis Tool (FRA Tool).

Performs data integrity checks within MS Access.

Generates and exports Trial Balance and communicates file with Team.

Generates and exports FRA Tool reports and communicates with Team.

Updates Trial Balance and Tool to remediate any variances, per Team communications.

Updates FRA Tool with Adjustment entries when needed.

Compiles monthly Financial Statements and Footnotes Binders, including FRA Tool reports and files from the Team.

Assists Team with PBC items as requested.

Updates SOP as requested.

Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output. 

Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/experience; however, no experience is required. Accounting degree is preferred.

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

Knowledge of enterprise-wide Financial Management systems and software such as Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System. Some experience is use and operations of a plus.

Strong knowledge in use of MS-Access as a financial reporting tool.

Familiarity with Financial Management Modernization Initiatives.

Strong knowledge in MS office to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other software suites.

Knowledge of and ability to provide general ledger and budgetary/financial analysis support to supporting the monthly budgetary/accounting operation, and general ledger reconciliations.

Knowledge of and ability to provide financial analysis/reporting support for monthly financial statement compilation and variance selection/explanation.

Knowledge and understanding of GAAP and/or FASAB standards and guidelines.

Knowledge of and ability to provide support to audit PBC’s and internal control requests.

Familiarity with TFM USSGL.

Experience with executing assigned tasks to meet technical objectives.

Excellent communication skills and a customer service focus.

Solid organizational skills relevant to carrying out day-to-day responsibilities.

Proficient in verbal, written and listening skills.

Ability to learn and apply new knowledge in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.

Ability to perform work in a collaborative environment with other organizational domains.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILL

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
