About the Team:
The Sustainability Team leads the company’s strategic work on climate & nature, waste and packaging, responsible sourcing, sustainability reporting and transparency, and people impact.
The Sustainability internship is an excellent opportunity for a student with an interest in learning more about how the food we sell is produced and sourced, and its impact on climate and nature. This internship will focus on opportunities within food retail to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote ecological diversity, enhance water stewardship, and empower communities within our supply chain.
Intern Responsibilities May Include:
Provide research support for emerging climate and sustainability issues, particularly those related to greenhouse gas reduction, ecological diversity, water stewardship, and community empowerment.
Assist in the development and implementation of projects related to climate
Contribute to data collection and analysis for key performance indicators within the climate strategy, helping to track progress against WFM's sustainability goals.
Learn about the depth and breadth of quality standards and sustainability, engaging with the other sustainability focuses: waste and packaging, reporting and transparency, people impact, and responsible sourcing.
Participate in Sustainability meetings, presentations and trainings to ensure exposure to the full range of the team’s functions and interdependencies

Ability to think critically about the intersection of sustainability and food systems, with a focus on innovative solutions that align with WFM's Climate Strategy.
Education & Experience:
Currently pursuing or recently completed (within the past year) a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in business, science, engineering, or technology relevant to food, sustainability or responsible sourcing
Passion for climate action, mitigation, and adaptation
Preferred: Previous experience in corporate sustainability
Internship Program Details:
Our Summer 2025 Internships are paid for 10-weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) between June 2, 2025-August 8, 2025. The internships will be based in Austin, Texas on a hybrid schedule and are not open to remote candidates at this time.
Program Highlights:
Weekly Summer Event Series: Weekly events for interns to connect with one another and get immersed in the Whole Foods Market culture. Previous events have included distribution center tours, cheese tastings, volunteering at the Central Texas Food Bank, supplier visits, women in leadership panel and more!
Intern Buddy: Opportunity to be paired with a Whole Foods Market team member outside of our team that can be a go to resource during your summer.
Team Member Coffee Chats: Network 1:1 with Whole Foods Market team members in your field or area of interest for a 20 – 30-minute coffee chat.
Internship Expo: End of internship presentations where you can share what projects you worked on during the summer with the entire company!
