This national capability focuses on serving US and foreign multi-national business’ US international tax advisory and compliance needs in coordination with foreign tax advisors and applicable laws.  This includes advising businesses on the application of US and foreign tax law to a business and how that impacts their choices and decisions to structure their legal entities, transactions and operations.  It also includes the compliance to accurately report and administer their global tax obligations. 

RSM Canada is looking for a Senior Associate to join our growing International Tax practice. This role provides an opportunity to join a specialty area within the firm’s rapidly expanding Canadian tax practice, focused on our inbound and outbound internationally active clients.   

As a Senior Associate, you will develop and use your expertise, to provide international tax consulting and compliance services to Canadian entities operating outside of Canada and foreign entities operating or investing within. You will also help lead our growth, seize new business opportunities and work closely with the Partners.   

Candidates must be curious, critical thinking and have the desire to solve complex cross border problems for our internationally focused clients. As you grow, you will develop the analytical skills necessary for the effective diagnosis, development and implementation of solutions to clients' tax needs. With RSM, you will have the opportunity to develop and pursue creative approaches to resolve client issues.

Preferred candidates will reside in the Greater Toronto Area.

Responsibilities:

  • Owning and driving the success of multiple engagements across different jurisdictions in a dynamic work environment
  • Demonstrate a strong desire to learn the Income Tax Act, Regulations, rulings and case law and how to apply this understanding to complex cross border tax situations
  • Provide mentorship, engagement, motivation, detailed reviews and timely feedback to team members
  • Dedicate time to coaching those team members on using tax software, and on business processes, research skills, technical expertise, planning and project management  
  • Stay alert to client needs that may result in growth opportunities for the firm and communicates to Managers and Partners
  • Working with your RSM colleagues across different jurisdictions
  • Developing an understanding of client’s business or family structure and investments, and becoming a “functional cross border tax expert”

  

Required Qualifications:

  • Dynamic problem solver, solid work ethic and strong project management skills
  • 2+ years public accounting experience working for a Big 4 or large national, regional or local accounting firm
  • CPA designation completed or in progress

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex information including the interpretation of tax laws
  • Strong project management skillset that can be demonstrated in fast moving, complex cross border engagements
  • MTax

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $65,500 - $105,000

Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
