Position Summary:
The employee will be providing in-depth analysis of North American energy markets, primarily focused on the US natural gas market. They will report directly into the Head of Fundamental Gas. The role will entail the creation and maintenance of both new and existing fundamental supply and demand models as well as pricing valuation models. The results of these models will be a point of discussion with the team and then used to facilitate trading decisions. The employee will be trained in natural gas fundamentals, market dynamics and portfolio management. This will enable the successful candidate to develop into a meaningful contributor towards the desk’s PnL and trading activities.
Responsibilities:
Develop in-depth knowledge of the natural gas market
Perform natural gas market research and analysis directly supporting trading activities
Apply advanced statistical techniques to market valuations
Track and benchmark performance of supply / demand models and trading strategies
Report and communicate the results of analysis to the desk’s risk takers; exploring price and fundamentals relationships
Design and develop data visualizations for efficient and detailed analysis
Examine unconventional data sources to augment existing modeling
Manage the desk’s web-based analytical tools
Be a key contributor in efforts to:
design, develop and continuously improve fundamental supply and demand models
constantly learn and adapt trading strategies
integrate new models within the desk’s existing computer modeling infrastructure
Work closely with the team to monetize research and identify market opportunities
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistical Modeling, Applied Math, Economics, Physics or related field
Including a very good understanding of probability, statistics and microeconomics
An interest in the synthesis of research, analytics and trading
Individuals must be motivated self-starters and independent thinkers
Excellent computer programming skills are essential
Proficient in translating mathematical models and algorithms into code (Python)
Experience with creating visualization tools and web development
A passion for and understanding of financial markets and modeling
A continuous thirst to expand upon your existing knowledge base
The ability to manage multiple tasks and execute projects efficiently in a team environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Exceptional attention to detail
