Position Summary:
This role is for a Senior Cloud Operations Engineer, who will provide expertise, support, and development for critical infrastructure components. This position is responsible for automating, optimizing, and modernizing virtualization environments for Enterprise Server infrastructure. The engineer would ensure the reliability, performance, optimization, and security of CVS Health's Infrastructure systems. The infrastructure spans over 60,000 servers and includes multiple datacenters and virtual environments.
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years in designing, implementing, and managing private cloud solutions, preferably across multiple platforms (ESXi, VCF, PFLEX, etc..)
- 5+ years of experience in private cloud technologies, such as VMware, coupled with hands-on experience in managing virtualized environments
- Understanding of Virtualization supporting Technologies - NSX, HCX, VCF, Pflex, Zerto, SRM, vROPs, Aria, vRLI
Preferred Qualifications:
- Understanding of physical server and hardware support for a private cloud environment with focus on Dell servers
- Deep understanding of cloud architecture principles, distributed systems, and microservices
- Expertise in cloud governance, security, and compliance frameworks (e.g., CIS, NIST, GDPR, HIPAA)
- Strong knowledge of infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, PowerShell)
- Extensive hands-on experience in infrastructure management, site reliability engineering, and observability engineering
- Profound expertise in DevOps principles, automation strategies, and advanced container orchestration, with a strong understanding of tools such as Kubernetes
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities, making the candidate a capable collaborator with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Proficient in coding across multiple infrastructure environments, demonstrating versatility and adaptability in various coding languages
- Strong scripting and automation skills, enabling the creation of robust and efficient automation solutions
- Familiarity with security and compliance standards, such as HIPAA and NIST, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and regulatory requirements
- Preferred experience with Infrastructure as Code (IAC) tools like Terraform and Ansible, leveraging their capabilities to provision and manage infrastructure resources
Automation and Efficiency:
- Identify, develop, and deploy automation solutions while ensuring their effective integration throughout the organization to efficiently oversee the administration, monitoring, and maintenance of server infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and high availability
- Collaborate with ServiceNow to establish automated inventory updates, ensuring accurate, up-to-date information for asset management and workflow automation
- Develop additional Infrastructure as Code (IAC) tools as needed to further optimize the environment, enabling efficient provisioning and configuration management
Infrastructure and Operations Management:
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable, secure, and highly available infrastructure that supports the organization's needs
- Develops and implements dashboards and reporting mechanisms that enable both engineers and leadership to quickly identify and track incidents and projects, facilitating informed decision-making
- Provides Level 3 support for critical incidents, demonstrating a sense of urgency in diagnosing and resolving issues that impact system availability, minimizing downtime
- Available for 24x7 on-call support as a Level 3 escalation point for outages and critical incidents, ensuring prompt response and resolution
- Performs thorough problem resolution and root cause analysis for critical incidents, identifying underlying issues and implementing preventive measures to mitigate future occurrences
- Serves as a liaison to vendor partners, leveraging their expertise and advanced solutions to enhance the infrastructure and address complex challenges
Platform Optimization, Capacity and Observability Engineering:
- Develops automated solutions to assess system performance, identifying areas for improvement to enhance efficiency, scalability, and reliability, ultimately optimizing overall operations
- Designs and implements self-healing solutions to increase uptime, minimizing downtime and reducing the need for manual intervention
- Spearhead observability initiatives, encompassing comprehensive monitoring, logging, and distributed tracing to provide actionable insights into system performance
Security and Compliance Focus:
- Collaborate with the security team to guarantee that our infrastructure and platforms comply with industry standards, regulations, and best practices, keeping our organization's technology assets secure
- Work in partnership with the Vulnerability Management team to conduct regular vulnerability assessments, identifying potential security risks, and promptly applying necessary patches, updates, and security configurations to mitigate these threats
Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
- Ensure the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date documentation for solutions developed by automation engineers, providing a comprehensive reference for future use and troubleshooting
- Actively share knowledge and expertise with junior team members, fostering their skill development and promoting a culture of continuous learning within the team
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$130,295.00 - $260,590.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
