As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers and technicians, you will provide engineering and test services that will enable assessment, analysis and production of materials and processes for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise on cleaning and contamination control activities in a spacecraft manufacturing environment

  • Development processes and procedures for Precision Cleaning, Clean Rooms, and Controlled work areas, including layouts, tooling, equipment procurement and setup

  • Provide day-to-day support to production of Blue Origin space vehicle systems with an primary focus on precision cleaning and contamination control.

  • Participate in the development and optimization of new process specifications and procedures

  • Support non-conformance resolution through evaluation and disposition development

  • Perform failure analysis of materials and root cause corrective action analysis of processes

  • Engage with design and operations on sustaining and refurbishment activities, to include operational maintenance requirements and standard repair development

  • Communicate technical concepts and results to program, manufacturing, and engineering stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a concentration in a relevant engineering discipline (materials, chemical, mechanical, aerospace, electrical, etc) or physical sciences

  • Understanding of AMS 2700, IEST-STD-CC1246E and ISO 14644 processes and procedures

  • Knowledge in precision cleaning processes or contamination control practices

  • Knowledge of operational and facility requirements supporting contamination control imposed throughout a product lifecycle

  • Experienced in reviewing engineering drawings and specifications to provide insight and interpretation for production and operations personnel

  • Ability to develop technical processes, qualification and scaling for production

  • Experience with operations support, resolving real-time requests and issues and delivering high quality results

  • Extremely customer focused with strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience supporting multiple tasks with competing priorities, delivering results and clearly communicating risks, issues and help needed

  • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution with a concentration in a relevant engineering discipline (materials, chemical, mechanical or aerospace) or physical sciences

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the fabrication, application and evaluation of aerospace materials and products

  • Experience resolving non-conformances and developing MRB and standard repair procedures

  • Experience with additional materials related technologies beyond contamination control; including corrosion control, adhesive bonding, coating systems, metallurgy, joint design, welding, structural assembly, machining, composites.

  • Experience with testing and physical characterization methods for metallic and/or non-metallic materials

  • Knowledge of materials compatibility with Cryogenics, hypergolics, and space environments and familiarity with unique requirements for space systems such as outgassing, flammability, et al

  • Knowledge of operational and facility requirements supporting contamination control, corrosion protection, electrical bonding and grounding, environmental controls (e.g., temperature, relative humidity, packaging) imposed throughout a product lifecycle

  • Knowledge of testing and physical characterization methods for aerospace materials

  • Knowledge of material failure modes and compatibility with materials in space and marine environments

  • Experience with Windchill, Gensuite, JIRA, Confluence, AutoCAD, Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks and MATLAB/Simulink

  • 5S and Lean Six Sigma experience
