This position would primarily support our distributed generation development and construction teams to advance community solar projects across the United States This is a unique role within the legal team that will span multiple disciplines and gain visibility into a broad swatch of the project lifecycle from early-stage development through to the end of constructionThis position will be a Counsel role with significant responsibility and opportunities for growthThis position requires a high level of ownership and ability to work across multiple disciplines while bringing a commercial mindset to problem-solvingCandidates should be comfortable clearly identifying, communicating and mitigating risks and managing outside counsel.  

 

LOCATION: Any AES Clean Energy office location, which includes Salt Lake City, Utah, Louisville, Colorado, Richmond, Virginia, Arlington, Virginia, Houston, Texas, New York, New York.  AES Projects are located across the U.S. This position can accommodate a hybrid work schedule from these locations.  

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide advice and counsel to development, permitting, interconnection, and project execution teams for community solar and battery storage projects from inception to commercial operation. 

  • Manage the negotiation and drafting of service agreements, development agreements, permits and applications, interconnection agreements, construction contracts, change orders, etc. 

  • Assist with public policy and regulatory issues and provide counsel in the identification of strategic markets.   

  • Work closely with real estate counsel and teams on cross-functional agreements like shared facility agreements, site control documents and local authority agreements. 

  • Achieve and maintain industry knowledge and strategy expertise for solar, wind, battery storage, and green hydrogen projects. 

Desired Experience and Skills: 

  • Strong renewable energy experience; solar and/or battery storage experience a plus; construction contract experience a plus. 

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. 

  • Ability to work effectively as an individual and as part of a team. 

  • Ability to adapt to a variety of duties and often challenging tasks. 

  • Smart, decisive, organized, methodical, biased toward action. 

  • Three to five years of relevant legal experience, preferably at a major law firm or in-house. 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree 

  • JD from an accredited law school and active bar admission in at least one jurisdiction

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $135,000 and $170,000/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
